Thousands of Falun Gong members held a peaceful protest in Washington on Monday to mark the fourth anniversary of Beijing's ban on the meditation group.

The concert of "Light and Peace," brought together a collection of musicians, singers, dancers, actors, poets and painters from around the world.

China has jailed several Falun Gong practitioners, including foreigners.

Falun Gong is a spiritual group said to be teaching mind and body improvement.

In July 1999, China's then-president [Jiang] Zemin banned the group, branding it public enemy number-one.

There were an estimated 100 million followers in China at the time.
