Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Hu Dali, age 30, was a pharmacist at Guizhou Province's Xiuwen County Chinese Medicine Hospital. He is now detained at Guiyang Public Security Hospital. Mr. Hu has been practicing Falun Dafa since 1996 and follows Dafa's principles of Truthfulness -- Compassion -- Forbearance. Because of the persecution, a good person has been jailed and his family members are not allowed to visit him.

On July 20, 1999, Jiang and his associates started a nationwide, large-scale persecution of Falun Gong. In November of 1999, Mr. Hu went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He was arrested and escorted back to his hometown simply because of exercising his basic human rights under China's Constitution. There, he was illegally detained for fifteen days. The county commissioner and the county authority cancelled the annual bonus for the entire hospital staff because Mr. Hu went to Beijing to appeal. After he was released, many other practitioners also went to Beijing to peacefully appeal for the legal reinstatement of Falun Gong. In response, the county police again brought Mr. Hu in for another round of brutal interrogation. They questioned him day and night while the handcuffs cut deeply into Mr. Hu's flesh. Because of his firm belief in Dafa, Mr. Hu would not confess to any of the false accusations against him. He was then illegally sent to three years of forced labor at Guizhou Province Zhongba Labor Camp.

The long and harsh sentence created tremendous pressures and stress for Mr. Hu's fiancée, and she eventually left him. Mr. Hu's sister was fired by her work unit because Mr. Hu is a Falun Gong practitioner. This caused a lot of financial trouble for the Hu family.

In May 2002, after suffering so many tortures at the forced labor camp, Mr. Hu was released "ahead of schedule." The police tried to use this situation to lure him into writing the "Three Guarantee Letters"*, saying that he would be able to return to his original work unit. Mr. Hu refused this bribe and told his work unit that there was nothing wrong with practicing Truthfulness -- Compassion -- Forbearance. As he did not want to cause the work unit any trouble, he quit his job and went on to do temporary part-time work. Right before China's 16th Party Congress, the police repeatedly went to Mr. Hu's house to harass him and limit his freedom so that he would not go to protest in Beijing. However, they could not find him at home, so the police sent hospital personnel to Guiyang City to look for him. Soon after, Mr. Hu was abducted by the police.

In July 2003, Mr. Hu's family was told that he had been tortured to such an extent that he could not stand up without assistance. Upon hearing this news, the family members requested to see Mr. Hu but their request was denied. This August, Mr. Hu was illegally sentenced by the Wudang District Court of Guiyang City and the Guiyang City "610 Office"** to ten years in prison. The accusation against Mr. Hu was, "violating the law and destroying TV broadcast equipment." The charge was false and there was no evidence against him.

Mr. Hu was tried illegally in a secret court without the notification of his immediate family. His family members felt sad and hurt when they heard the news. His mother has attempted to see him many times, but has never gotten permission to do so.

*"Three Guarantee Letters:" practitioners are coerced under brainwashing and torture to write these as proof that they have given up their belief. Created by the "610 Office," the three statements consist of a letter of repentance, a guarantee to never again practice Falun Gong, and a list of names and addresses of all family members, friends and acquaintances who are practitioners.

**"610 Office:" an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
