Since May 2002, prison officials at Dabei Prison (including both male and female prisons), Shengyang city, Liaoning province, have been persecuting Falun Gong practitioners in a frenzy of desperation. The cruel methods they use on practitioners who have been steadfast are especially shocking.

After their evil deeds were exposed on the Clearwisdom website, they adopted more secretive and more despicable methods to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners. Information on the persecution is strictly controlled at all levels inside the prison. They have set a rule for common criminals: nobody is allowed to speak to Falun Dafa practitioners. In addition, family members who are visiting common criminals are closely monitored, and their conversations are recorded to prevent information leakage. Furthermore, practitioners are not allowed to have contact with anybody other than the collaborators (former Falun Gong practitioners who have gone astray due to brainwashing and torture) who are assigned to monitor them. Prison officials even watch and prevent practitioners from making eye contact with others. Prison officials prohibit Falun Gong practitioners from talking to other people, writing letters to family members, making telephone calls, having visitors, appealing for his/her case, reporting the facts of the persecution, meeting with higher officials in the prison, or reporting the real situation in the prison. A prison guard once threatened, "As a Falun Gong practitioner, you have no place to appeal and nowhere to right a wrong. You are not allowed to talk, write, or see anyone. If you die, I will destroy the evidence of how it happened. Your family won't even be allowed to see your dead body. When it comes to Falun Gong people, we can do anything without any consequence. Don't think you can walk out of here alive without being transformed. There is no other way. If I don't do this, [former Chinese leader] Jiang won't let me make a living."

Before the exposure of their evil deeds, they had the unyielding practitioners tortured by common criminals. Five or six common criminals would beat one practitioner day and night. When the practitioner tried to reason with the prison guards, they would use electric batons to shock the practitioner. Now, after the exposure, prison guards intentionally stay away when they have practitioners beaten by the common criminals. Before the exposure, they put those practitioners who were on hunger strike, or other unyielding practitioners into the prison hospital. There was a special room in the hospital with a special bed made of steel wire. They tied the practitioner in this bed. Since the practitioner's hands and feet were tie to the bed, he/she would have to urinate in the bed. The practitioner would be soaked in urine for many days. When he/she was about to die, prison guard would move the practitioner to special prison cells. Nowadays, in order to cover up the truth, Dafa practitioners are kidnapped to "secret cells" at various jail sections. Prison guards arrange common criminals to physically and mentally abuse the practitioners. The individual jail section is not allowed to report any "unusual" situation about Falun Gong practitioners. Whoever reports it will be criticized and will not get any bonus. The prison guards arrange common criminals to force Dafa practitioners to recite jail rules everyday. They also force practitioners to do hard labor; the work often lasts until 2~3 o'clock in the morning or even the whole night, in which case practitioners are not allowed to sleep.

Falun Dafa practitioners who are illegally jailed at Dabei prison are often not given enough food, and are being abused by common criminals. They are forced to do hard labor, and they are subjected to brainwashing. They are not allowed to practice Falun Gong exercises, and injures to their physical bodies are unimaginably severe. The practitioners who suffered severe physical abuse are sent to prison hospital for injection and medication. At the same time, the prison uses medical expense as an excuse to extort large amounts of money from their families. Many practitioners developed severe heart problems, high blood pressure, dropsy, and tuberculosis etc. Dabei Prison, however, refused all requests from practitioners' families for temporary release in order to seek medical treatment outside the prison.
