(Clearwisdom) Toronto - The global mission to rescue persecuted Falun Gong practitioners (Canada) held a press conference in front of Hong Kong's Economic and Trade Office Toronto on Tuesday (28 January 2003), calling for the Hong Kong SAR Government to rescue the Hong Kong Permanent Resident, Falun Gong Practitioner, Mr Chan Wing-yuen now imprisoned in Myanmar.

According to his case which was recently exposed to the public, the 71-year-old senior citizen was visiting his family member about one year ago. When Mr. Chan heard that Jiang was to visit Rangoon, the capital of Myanmar, he unfurled a small banner with the words, "truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance," on a street on the way to the airport. For his peaceful action, Mr Chan was arrested by local police officers. Then on January 31, 2002, he was secretly sentenced to 7 years in prison. He was afforded no legal representation, and neither were his family members present at the trial. As of today, he has been imprisoned for over one year.

This is another clear example that the Chinese regime extends its persecution of Falun Gong outside China's borders. The international community was shocked by the heavy prison sentence handed down to a senior citizen by the Myanmar military authority bullied by the Chinese regime.

Global Mission to rescue persecuted Falun Gong practitioners is of the opinion that the Hong Kong SAR government has lost its capability to protect its residents overseas. Recently, the Hong Kong authorities intention to complete legislation of Article 23 at the behest of Jiang's regime further increases the worry of Hong Kong people's future.
