Chinese police have detained two Australians who tried to protest against the government's treatment of practitioners of the banned spiritual Falun Gong movement.
The couple shouted [statements] and tried to unfurl a banner in Beijing's Tiananmen Square, but were quickly removed by police.
A statement written by the couple and released by the Falun Gong's headquarters in New York said the human rights violations of millions of Falun Gong practitioners in China was not acceptable.
The protest - the latest in a series by western followers of the group - comes during the annual session of China's parliament.
