February 22, 2002 Greater Victoria Falun Gong supporters are calling on the federal government to speak out against China's crackdown against their movement.

Andrea Hayley, of Victoria, was among Westerners detained last week in China after she attempted to join a pro-Falun Gong demonstration in Tiananmen Square. Falun Gong, a meditation movement, has been banned in China.

Hayley said police treated her roughly and held her in custody for 24 hours before deporting her on a flight to Vancouver.

She wants to rally support for Canada to censure China for its human rights record and is calling on citizens to write the federal government.
