[Changchun City, Jilin Province] Female Practitioner in Critical Condition after Trying to Escape Torture in Mental Hospital

On February 10, 2002, a 51-year-old practitioner, Ms. Zhang Binghui, was detained in Changchun City's Kaixuan Hospital, also called Xiaonan Mental Hospital. As Ms. Zhang refused to cooperate with them, those inhumane doctors and nurses relentlessly beat her with an electric baton and other instruments. As a result, Ms. Zhang lost one of her eyes. She was transferred to the Eye Clinic of Changchun City's Center Hospital, which was on the fifth floor, at the same height as the seventh floor is usually located. In order to escape from the vicious persecution, Ms. Zhang was injured when she jumped off the building. At present, her life is in extreme danger. But the Changchun City police authority and Changchun City's Kaixuan Hospital acted in collusion. They claimed Ms. Zhang scratched out one of her eyeballs and jumped off the high building to commit suicide. In the meantime, they ordered a news blackout.

From February 1, 2002 until today, over 150 practitioners have been kidnapped in Changchun City. The officers in Changchun City's Police Department dispatched 50 armed policemen to monitor practitioners. More than 60 practitioners were put into criminal detention, while others were put into administration detention, forced labor camps or were illegally fined, and some were sent into a brainwashing class. Most older people were fined.

Two wards were set up in Fushun City's No.2 Hospital of Liaoning Province, which have been filled up with Dafa practitioners being persecuted. The facilities were set up using specially designated, national funds. Some practitioners were beaten to the point of disability. Some were in critical condition due to a hunger strike. The abusive policemen called the two wards an "iron cage."

I am a practitioner from Fushun City. When I was detained in No.2 Detention Center, I suffered from heart disease. But the doctor in the detention center just gave me a few tablets of Valium or gave me a shot. When my life was in extreme danger, they sent me to the No.2 Hospital, to avoid responsibility in case I died in the detention center. The policemen from Wujiabaozi continued to watch over me, unscrupulously claiming to "save" me.

I escaped from the evil's den in the hospital again. In order to find out my whereabouts, the lawless policemen detained all my family members for 24 hours. They detained my younger brother for an even longer time.

[Qingyuan County, Liaoning Province] Collective Hunger Strike of Over 40 Dafa Practitioners to Protest Policemen's Atrocities in Qingyuan County Detention Center

The officers in Qingyuan County's Political and Judiciary Committee, the "610 Office" [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems] and Police Department detained over 40 Dafa practitioners within just a few months. Eight l policemen took turns beating a practitioner from Wandianzi for a whole day after he (or she) was detained due to clarifying the truth. They brutally whipped him with a leather strap, beat him with sticks, force-fed him with 60% alcohol, and burned his face and chin with cigarettes.

In order to protest the inhumane detention and atrocities, over 40 Dafa practitioners in Qingyuan County's Detention Center launched a hunger strike. We hope kind-hearted people from all walks of life will pay attention to this issue.

[Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province] Dafa Practitioners' Experiences of Spreading and Safeguarding Dafa at Daqing City's Detention Center

I was illegally put into Daqing City's Detention Center when I was doing Dafa truth-clarifying work. There were 19 people in my cell, four of them were practitioners and the other 15 were common criminals. Later, another eight practitioners were put into our cell. Some of them had been arrested when they were doing Dafa truth-clarifying work; some were tricked from home into the police office and then illegally sent here; some were forcibly taken away after the lawless policemen entered their homes with keys. Like bandits, policemen took away practitioners' phone books, bank deposit books and other private belongings.

I clarified the truth to these policemen and exposed the evils. I also told them if everyone could follow the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance," our society would be harmonious. They responded, "If everyone became a good person, then we would have nothing to do." We also spread Dafa to the criminals, and let them know Falun Dafa is the greatest Fa with mighty virtue. They said, "We all know the faked propaganda on TV; you practitioners are good people." One said, "If I can get out, I will practice Dafa and go to Tiananmen Square to validate the Fa." A few criminals beat and cursed Dafa practitioners. We appealed to their justice with our compassion. Eventually they distinguished the good from the bad and apologized to us.

Some wardens instigated criminals to beat practitioners. They interrogated practitioners at midnight, beat and abused practitioners and ordered felons who were sentenced to death to force-feed practitioners. Practitioners' esophagi were bleeding due to the force-feeding and they screamed in agony. Then we all sent righteous thoughts to eliminate the evils. Later the wardens asked doctors to insert the tube for force-feeding. I also heard from criminals that Ms. Chen Qiulan died from being force-fed. But the wardens in the detention center blocked the information, and it was not allowed to get out. Ms. Liu Liping was illegally detained. She did not give up Falun Gong practice after she was forced to sit on the iron chair for six days. Later, she was illegally sentenced to four years of imprisonment in a jail in Harbin City.

[China] Jiang Regime Issues Another Secret Order for Arresting Dafa Practitioners in a Broad Sweep

Recently rulers in China's regime issued another secret order to every police department, from central government on down to local precinct police stations. They ordered a nation- wide, large raid on Dafa practitioners around January 15 in the Chinese calendar. If a Dafa flyer were found at a practitioner's home, the practitioner would be sentenced to criminal internment. Those practitioners who are imprisoned in detention centers and custody centers and refused to write the so-call "guarantee statements" would not be released, even though they were on a hunger strike.

On January 15, 2002, when Dafa practitioners Mr. Wang Kemin and Mr. Pu Yingsu went to fellow practitioner Cui Hongyi's home, local policemen were illegally searching it. Policemen from the Ethylene Police Department arrested the two practitioners. Practitioner Wang Kemin was brutally abused and interrogated for 24 hours. After the local policemen could not beat Mr. Wang anymore, they ordered policemen from other departments to continue abusing Mr. Wang. Mr. Wang Kemin was covered with bruises all over his body. His nose was fractured. Afterwards, he was put into Daqing City's Longfeng Detention Center. Mr Wang Kemin has not taken any food or liquids for over 30 days to protest the illegal abuse. Because of the inhumane physical and mental abuse, Mr. Wang Kemin is currently emaciated and his heart is functioning abnormally. We urgently call on all people with a sense of justice to help and protect these kind-hearted people! We solemnly request the immediate release of Dafa practitioner Mr. Wang Kemin and Mr. Pu Yingsu.

[Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province] Policemen in Lingyuan City's Police Department Illegally Put Dafa Practitioners into a Brainwashing Class

It is known that officials in Lingyuan City's Government of Liaoning Province took the initiative to dispatch local policemen to learn how to set up brainwashing classes in Dalian City. In October 2001, supported by the city government and city committee, officials in Lingyuan City's Police Department plotted and prepared a brainwashing class. Every police office in Lingyuan City was allocated a quota for a certain number of people. They ordered personnel in every police office to arrest practitioners. Lawless policemen illegally broke into practitioners' homes or detained practitioners from their work units without any due process of law. They even forcibly herded practitioners who were shopping in food markets into police vehicles and sent them to the Lingyuan City's Detention Center.

At around 1 p.m. on September 6, 2001, six or seven policemen, including Sun Guohua and Li Changchun from the Xiangdong Chemical Factory in Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province, suddenly went to an older practitioner's home and knocked on the door. Before the practitioner opened the door, the policemen jumped over the wall into his courtyard, broke into his home, and ransacked it. After they found nothing worth confiscating, they ordered the elderly practitioner to open a locked case. The man was so frightened at the policemen's freebooting that he couldn't find the key to the case after searching for an hour. At this time, two policemen damaged the lock on the case and pried it open. They took away a stack of white paper, some telephone cords, which were prepared for phone installation, a recorder, a VCR, and some other items. They still claimed they would take the old man away and fine him 5,000 Yuan [500 Yuan is the average monthly income in urban China]. The elderly practitioner is a retired worker with a low pension. He didn't have much money. However, the policemen said if the practitioner did not give them money, they would arrest him. Having no choice, the practitioner's daughter borrowed 500 Yuan and gave it to the policemen, and then they released the practitioner.

Someone asked the practitioner, "What crime did you commit? Why did the "People's Policemen" mistreat you this way?"

The old man answered, "I didn't do anything wrong and didn't say anything wrong. I have never been against the government. Because I was old and sick, earning a very low income and my work unit wouldn't cover my medical bills, in order to become healthy, I practiced Falun Gong. I am uneducated so I learned Dafa by listening to tapes and watching videotapes. After studying the Fa I became healthy. I can't go against my conscience and say that Dafa is bad, not to mention even slandering Dafa. Falun Dafa is good. It not only cured my illnesses, but also taught me the fundamental principles to be a good person. By doing good deeds and collecting de [virtue], I will be healthy, whereas if I do bad things and hurt others, I will fall ill. Is there anything wrong with being healthy and being a good person? I really want to find a place to reason with the police. Did I cause harm to society by staying at home? On the other hand, would jumping over walls, hammering the lock, prying the case and illegally confiscating people's private property bring more stability to society?"

[Laiwu City, Shandong Province] City Party Committee Director, Mayor and Officers in the "610 Office" Continue to Persecute Dafa Practitioners

Before the Spring Festival, officers of Laiwu City's Police Department held a meeting. Zhang Zhengquan, director of the Politics and Judiciary Committee, said during the meeting that whoever went to Beijing again will be made penniless!

Every police department, office and station throughout the city dispatched policemen to watch and harass Dafa practitioners. Sometimes these policemen even harassed the practitioners in their homes three times a day.

On February 6, 2002, at around 4 p.m. policemen from the Laiwu District Police Office and Laiwu District Fangxia Town Police Office went to a practitioner's home in Fangxia Town in an attempt to arrest him. However, he wasn't at home, so they kidnapped one of his family members as a hostage. When the practitioner went back home at night, the lawless policemen arrested him and detained him at Laiwu City's Detention Center. Prior to the detention, policemen illegally arrested an over 70- year-old practitioner, and another 20-year-old practitioner is currently detained there also.

Around the New Year's Day of 2002, Du Huanchang, director of the "610 Office," and officials in Laiwu City's Police Department sent eight practitioners in Laiwu City to the Wangchun Forced Labor Camp in Zibo City and the former Female Drug Rehabilitation Center in Jinan City, respectively.

[Jilin City, Jilin Province] Contemptible Means of Persecution Employed Against Dafa Practitioners by Officers from the National Security Department

With hypocritical faces, officials from the National Security Department in Jilin City persecute Dafa practitioners with various contemptible means. When they arrest practitioners, they usually tell them that if they reveal where on the Internet they got the truth-clarifying materials, they will be released. They claim they are different from officials in the police department, as they only care about practitioners' access to the Internet but not about their practice. They only want to arrest the "organizers" and "people who print the material." At first, they extend their "kindness" to practitioners and "help" practitioners to solve some of life's problems. If practitioners refuse to cooperate with them, they immediately change their attitude and treat practitioners as criminals. If practitioners reveal everything, they will release the practitioners, send them to a forced labor camp, put them in jail or keep them under surveillance, depending on the practitioner's value to them. Officers in the National Security Department use advanced technology to arrest practitioners who have access to the Internet. Some of them look like teachers, some like government officials. They are very polite when they talk to you at first, but in fact they are all "wolves in sheep's clothing." They wear plainclothes and look no different from ordinary people.

On November 30, 2001, Dafa practitioner Mr. Dai Zhiyong from Daqing City went to Beijing to appeal and has not returned home yet. Recently, it was said that he was detained and brutally tortured in the National Security Section of the Chaoyang Police Station in Chaoyang's Detention Center.

Northern Siyou Chemical Factory is a private enterprise in Qiqihar City. It's famous for manufacturing a pesticide called "Virus A." The product is mainly sold to southern China. As the job of manufacturing pesticides is dirty and tiring, not to mention harmful to health, even people who don't have a job are not willing to do it. Officials from the Shuanghe Forced Labor Camp thus forced people being held (most of them are Dafa practitioners) to do this hard labor and make money from it. When the peak period of using this pesticide in southern China arrived, the factory unpacked the pesticides they had kept in stock a long time. Farmers had returned those outdated pesticides. The detention center inmates had to repack them in new bags labeled with a new date. Dafa practitioners knew very well that producing something this way was definitely illegal, therefore, they tried many times to stop it. They talked about this to the team leaders, including Zhang Zhijie, Guo Li, Liu Shurong and Wang Mei. However, in order to make their personal profit, these police officers from the labor camp would rather betray their consciences. They beat and abused Dafa practitioners and forced them to make false products. Afterwards, Dafa practitioners collectively wrote letters to Director Bai, Director Hong, Director Dong and the director of Siyou Chemical Factory, strongly urging them to stop distributing inferior, outdated products. The people in charge relented, but only for a while. Now they are still distributing ineffective, outdated products and selling them to southern China and abroad.

A practitioner's husband who was not a practitioner packed luggage for his wife before she went to Beijing to validate the Fa. He even wanted to go with his wife. He said, "If the policemen come to arrest you when you unfurl the banner, I will press them down to the ground so that you can run away."

After the practitioner was arrested, her husband went to the detention center to send her some clothes. He said to the guard, "My child is left at home without care; otherwise I would also go to Beijing to validate the Fa." While his wife was at home, they always went out together to distribute Dafa truth-clarifying materials. Now that his wife is held at the detention center, he still makes banners and goes out to hang them up by himself.
