Focus on Hong Kong

In the past few weeks, many English Members of Parliament have voiced their concern about Article 23 of the Hong Kong Basic Law, because the Hong Kong Government may easily utilize it to severely limit the freedom of speech and ban Falun Gong. Some of the MPs contacted the English Foreign Minister and the newly elected United Nations Human Rights High Commissioner, and asked them to pay particular attention to this issue. Some directly expressed their concern to the Hong Kong Government, and even more Members of Parliament said they would monitor this issue in the debate in the House of Parliament.

The Truth and People's Minds

A letter to his parents-in-law from a Dafa practitioner who was forced to abandon his home and go from place to place to avoid persecution: "Please don't be deceived by the evil scoundrels' lies. During the Cultural Revolution, my father was labeled as a 'spy' and a 'traitor,' and was beaten until he was paralyzed and became bedridden. My grandfather was labeled as a 'counterrevolutionary' and beaten to death. During that time, even the Chairman of the country was labeled as a 'traitor.' Now we all know that these were are all lies. However, the same things are happening again, to me. They are once again slandering and lying, falsely accusing us of committing 'self-immolation' and suicides. This is yet another political movement, a persecution of the kind people who practice Falun Gong. Falun Gong is beneficial to the nation and the people -- this is the undeniable truth. If you can understand the facts and the truth, then use your conscience, kindness and righteousness to offer support for morality and justice for us, your fellow countrymen and relatives who persist in practicing Zhen-Shan-Ren [Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance] even in the face of severe tribulation. Position yourselves well, then no matter how much suffering I might bear, I will find it worthwhile."

Facts of the Persecution

The chief of the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp in Harbin, Shi Yingbai, instigates his staff to brutally torture Falun Gong practitioners both mentally and physically using excruciating methods. They force practitioners to sit on an iron chair for over one month until their buttocks fester. They use ten electric batons to simultaneously shock practitioners. They use hard objects to beat the lower body of female practitioners. They throw female practitioners into male cells and use metal objects to scrape their bodies. They feed the practitioners only small amounts of cornmeal, forcing them to be in a severely hungry state for long periods of time. They force practitioners to do intensive labor beyond their physical limit, gluing slipper soles using toxic adhesives. The frequent, high-intensity tortures have resulted in the deaths of several Falun Gong practitioners.
