Some Insights Gained During a Hunger Strike
In May 2000, several of us went to the provincial government headquarters to appeal for Falun Dafa. We were arrested by the police and sent to the local Public Security Bureau. We told them that we were not criminals and that we would not eat food provided at the prison.
The six of us were held in the same cell. One of us, a female practitioner in her fifties, decided to eat due to her attachments while the rest of us didn't touch any of the food.
One night while we were sleeping, we heard someone crying. It was the female practitioner. She said, "I couldn't sleep because I was homesick. Then I saw Teacher Li coming to us. He patted each and every one of you, but not me." Hearing this, we became wide awake. No wonder we hadn't felt hungry, even after being on hunger strike for so many days. Most people would have collapsed by now. We realized that Teacher Li had been strengthening us.
The more we talked about it, the more we realized that we had done the right thing. We were eliminating the evil. The female practitioner who didn't participate in the hunger strike realized her mistake and also joined us. In the end, the six of us walked out of that evil place in a dignified manner.
Although this was only a small incident during our cultivation, it made us think: as Falun Dafa practitioners, we should take advantage of every opportunity to cultivate. Each attachment is a mountain. We will not realize what we have missed out on until we lose it.
