Thousands Gather Outside Chinese Embassies and Consulates Around the World

Names and Details of Perpetrators Made Available on Public Websites

NEW YORK, January 13, 2001 (Falun Dafa Information Center)--Today marked the third day of a global appeal by practitioners and supporters of Falun Gong to curb a recent escalation in torture and killings of people who practice Falun Gong in China, which significantly increased in the weeks leading up to the new year -- twenty reports of those who died due to torture and mistreatment while in police custody surfaced in the last three weeks.

Appearing in front of Chinese embassies and consulates in over 30 cities around the world, people gathered with banners, traditional Chinese music and candles. Many practiced the slow-moving Falun Gong exercises to the accompaniment of traditional Chinese music, as others quietly stood holding banners or handing flyers to passers-by. In the evenings, candles lined many of the gatherings, which typically continued 4 or 5 hours after sunset.

In many cities, the vigils began with a press conference, calling for an end to the pattern of "violence and state-terrorism" carried out against people in China who practice Falun Gong.

A list of the names and phone numbers for many Chinese officials believed to be responsible for the torture and killing of practitioners in China was made available via a public website (see http://www.fawanghuihui.org).
