Facing the persecution of Falun Dafa, I went to Beijing to appeal again on January 23, 2001. I arrived in Beijing on Chinese New Year (January 24). During the holidays there were plainclothes and regular police everywhere.

When I reached "Qianmen" (southern entrance of Tiananmen), I saw that everyone was questioned before entering. Three policemen stopped me and asked whether I had any form of identification; where I was coming from; why I came to Beijing; and whether I was a Falun Dafa practitioner. I refused to answer. One policeman demanded, "You must answer directly. Are you or not?" Then they cursed Master Li and asked me to curse as well if I wanted to leave. When I refused, they decided I was a Falun Dafa practitioner and forced me into their car. They searched me but did not find anything. One policeman pointed at Tiananmen Square and said, "I see you are all dressed up. You must be here following the path to Consummation. Fine, you want to reach Consummation? I will help you. We have lots of gasoline ready, one barrel for each of you. We won't even need to dig a grave afterwards." Later they arrested more Falun Dafa practitioners and sent them to the Tiananmen Police Station. In the afternoon we were transferred to Pinggu County Detention Center in the suburb of Beijing.

On arriving there, the police asked for our names and addresses to further the persecution. All of us went on a hunger strike and refused to cooperate with the evil. In order to obtain our names, they used many different "techniques." In the freezing January temperatures, the police took off our clothes and opened the windows, poured cold water all over us, beat us, handcuffed and hung up practitioners outside, and did not allow us access to toilet facilities. Practitioners' faces were bruised black and blue from the beatings. They also beat practitioners to the floor for force-feeding. When these brutal "techniques" failed, they tried the soft approach. They asked us to "sympathize" with them. If we wouldn't cooperate for our own sakes, we should think of them. They persuaded us to give at least some false information since we were still unwilling to give the true information. I said, "We are Falun Dafa practitioners. If we speak, it must be the truth. Otherwise we will say nothing."

Around 3 a.m., those of us who refused to give our names were put in special cells. Practitioners shared their experiences there. Two of the practitioners witnessed one scene in the January 23rd so-called "self-immolation" incident. At that time, one of the victims was clutching the throat with an open mouth unable to speak. It was a terrifying sight. They also saw a young male holding a lighter. He ran into a car parked nearby after setting the victims on fire. The car drove away immediately. Another practitioner saw smoke coming out from one place in Tiananmen Square. Everyone's attention went there. Meanwhile, he saw a few people set on fire at another place. Later on they realized that it was the evil using the distraction of the smoke to divert people's attention while the victims were set alight. This was witnessed by two practitioners on the afternoon of January 23rd. I realized that we needed to leave this place immediately so that the truth could be told to the outside world.

Then one practitioner returned from interrogation and reported that the police had changed their attitude from the previous day. One of the police had said, "Please don't hate me. Continue your cultivation. When you reach Consummation don't forget me. I don't want to do this either. I know you are all good people. Blame it on Jiang Zemin who is determined to destroy virtue. When you go home, ask your people to rectify the Fa. The Fa will be rectified. That will be good for me because then I won't have to do these bad things any more."

At that time I said to myself, I must go out to let people know about Jiang Zemin's immolation and murder conspiracy. When I was interrogated three days later, I steadfastly refused to give my name and demanded my unconditional release. I was released.
