BERLIN, Jun 21, 2001 -- (dpa) German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer expressed concern over China's human rights to visiting Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Wu Bangguo, the ministry said Wednesday.

Wu, who is on a one-week visit to Germany, earlier met German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Economics Minister Werner Mueller for talks focused on trade and environmental issues.

Schroeder is due to visit China this autumn.

"Despite progress in many areas Fischer expressed concern (over rights)," said the ministry.

Wu said Beijing and Berlin had different views in some areas but admitted that more could - and would - be done regarding human rights, the German Foreign Ministry said.
