[Wuhan City, Hubei Province] My Story of Being Detained in the Wuhan City Qiaokou Detention Center for 11 Days

I am 63 years old. At 11am on March 24, 2001, local police illegally took me away when I was visiting a practitioner's home. That night, police put me into a cell in the Qiaokou Detention Center. There was a 60-year-old female practitioner detained with me. Police locked us up in an observation room. The guards escorted us to the bathroom and brought our food themselves. We were not allowed to talk with other practitioners. At night, we had to share a bed about 0.86 meters [about 2.8 feet] wide. We had to sleep on our sides. However, there were 2 empty bunk beds in the same room. They would rather leave the beds vacant than let us sleep on them. We could not use the restroom as we needed to. Once, I had stomachache and felt the urge to go to the bathroom. The guard in charge of our cell was not present. A female guard in charge of another cell happened to drop by. Not only did she refuse to tell the guard in charge of our cell, but also said, "Do the Falun Gong practitioners still need to urinate and defecate?" Every night the guards checked our cell every other hour. They did not allow us to practice or study the Fa [Law or Great Principle]. In this environment, I was detained for 11 days. Other practitioners detained for a long time were forced to work and attend a "reform" class. Not long ago, words slandering Teacher and Dafa were posted or written on the walls. A Dafa practitioner tore down and ripped up the poster. All practitioners were beaten for that. The practitioner who tore down the poster was sentenced to 1 year of forced labor. The practitioner who stayed with me in the same cell was 61 years old. Her husband suffered from lung cancer and was dying. The doctor suggested she go back home and see him. However, on the third day after she returned home, 2 officials from the residential committee and 3 policemen forcibly took her to a police car. Since her dying husband was left home without anyone taking care of him, she was so worried she lost her appetite and did not eat anything for 3 days. A guard persuaded her to eat something. The leader, Sun Bo said, "No one should ask them to eat any more. If they do not eat, just let the doctors give them some shots." A female guard said, "If they do not eat, they deserve to die."

[Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Dafa Practitioner Fan Haidong was Illegally Sentenced to 2 Years Forced Labor in Chengdu City

Dafa practitioner Fan Haidong (male) lived in the dormitory of Chengdu City No. 106 Factory, (Hongguang Electric Tube Factory) which is in the administrative area of Jianshe Street Police Station. In early March 2001, in fear of practitioners going to appeal in Beijing during the time of "two conferences," [the Chinese People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference] police took a lot of practitioners away from their work units or homes. The practitioners were forcibly sent to Huipu Village in Wenjiang County for "reform." Fan Haidong was detained without due process of the law since he went on a hunger strike. On March 2, 2001, he was sent to Lianhuacun Detention Center and was illegally sentenced to 2 years forced labor.

[Hubei Province] A City in Hubei Province Sets up "Reform" Class to Illegally Persecute Dafa Practitioners

A city in Hubei Province illegally set up "reform" classes. During the Spring Festival, there were about 70 practitioners detained in a single class. Among them, most were middle aged or senior females and there were also 7 college students. Before mid-February, Dafa practitioners were all locked in their own rooms except at meal times. Video monitors and eavesdrop devices were installed in the rooms. Practitioners were not allowed to practice Falun Gong exercises or recite Teacher's articles. The "violators" would be handcuffed after being warned 3 times. Those practitioners who were found practicing after 3 times were sentenced to forced labor. Some practitioners have been sentenced to imprisonment due to persistent practicing. Early in the first month, Dafa practitioners went on a hunger strike. It lasted for as long as 11 days for some practitioners. However, there was no reaction from the guards. The purpose of the hunger strike was for unconditional release, which was not achieved. Later the practitioners asked for a changing the guards who beat them, better food, and a lengthened time for visiting and exercising. The requirements were permitted so the hunger strike was stopped. Now each of the detention center personnel is in charge of 1 or 2 Dafa practitioners.
