Reliable sources reveal that Jiang Zemin alone wants to persecute Falun Gong. Why?
According to an insider, after April 25, 1999, when 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners gathered at Zhongnanhai in Beijing, a secret, official, urgent communique called "Letter from comrade Jiang to Politburo members and other concerned leaders" was drafted and sent. Jiang reportedly wrote the letter on the evening of April 25. Later, he wrote another secret, urgent letter on June 13, 1999 entitled "Directive from Comrade Jiang Zemin at the Chinese Central Politburo Meeting regarding an urgent and fast way to solve the Falun Gong problem."
According to an anonymous source, in the April 25 secret letter, Jiang expressed his concerns about possible connections between Falun Gong, Western countries, and other overseas interests. He also wanted to know if there were any "senior insiders in the Chinese government that might be manipulating and directing the whole thing." In addition, Jiang said, "Don't tell me that our Marxist doctrine of atheism cannot overcome something like Falun Gong. If it can't, it will become a big joke all over the world!"
The same source said that in the second letter, Jiang wrote, "In 80 years of revolution and nation building, our party has controlled all government power. With an army of 25 million, 60 million XX party members, and a large number of senior and mid- level leaders, how could this Falun Gong problem have appeared? How did it get so big? Obviously, Li Hongzhi alone could not have amassed such power. The Falun Gong issue has a strong social and political background, as well as an international background. This is the largest movement since the 1989 incident at Tiananmen Square."
From this we can see that what Jiang Zemin feared was not what Falun Gong was all about. Also, it was not that there were too many Falun Gong practitioners. He was afraid of what he imagined to be behind Falun Gong, such as "high senior Chinese government officials," or "overseas interests and Western nations." Falun Gong was demonized and persecuted because Jiang Zemin wanted to protect his own power from these senior XX party members. This is the real reason.
