Mister Lucien Bouchard
Prime Minister of Québec
Subject: Falun Dafa

Mister Prime Minister,

Over the past few years, I have woven increasingly closer ties with the people of Chinese origin in my riding; I have thus had the chance to mix with Falun Dafa practitioners, especially during the week dedicated to this practice.

Falun Dafa practitioners teach us that this Buddhist-inspired movement invites its practitioners to a communication with the essential principles of the universe through the practice of certain movements which promote meditation. They preach tolerance, benevolence, and the practice of volunteer work and have members all over Canada.

Yet, the news that comes to us from China testifies to a totally different perception of the members of this movement - that of the Chinese government: they show total contempt towards practitioners, arresting and persecuting them all the while ignoring the most basic of human rights.

Mister Prime Minister, during your next economic mission to China, would it be possible for you, if circumstances permit, to address the question of the banning of Falun Dafa in that part of Asia, given that inside Canada these people unceasingly demonstrate that they are respectable citizens who are attentive, open and generous and it is thus very difficult for us to understand what could attract the wrath of the Chinese authorities.

I am counting on your understanding and your humanity to obtain a response.

Yours Sincerely,

Henri-Fran ois Gautrin

Member of the Québec National Assembly, riding of Verdun
