TORONTO Jiyu Li made an emotional plea to the Canadian government yesterday asking for intervention on China's crackdown of Falun Gong practitioners.

Thousands of believers have been detained in Chinese labour camps and psychiatric hospitals since China ruled the practise illegal in 1999.

Li's husband, Shenli Lin, was stripped of his freedom 14 months ago when he was sentenced to three years in a Chinese jail for practising Falun Gong
