Dear [name withheld]:

Thank you for contacting me to convey your support for H. Con. Res 188, which calls upon the Government of China to cease its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. I am a co-sponsor of this important legislation.

This bill calls upon the Government of the United States to use every appropriate public and private forum to urge the Government of China to end its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Sadly, the Chinese government has consistently failed to uphold international standards of religious freedom and human rightes. Falun Gong practitioners are frequently subjected to discrimination, inhumane treatment, and torture, while confined to labor camps, prisons, and mental institutions.

Every nation's commitment to the enforcement of human rights standards should be absolute and its practices should not deviate from those principles. It is my hope that H. Con. Res. 1888 will encourage the Chinese government to take positive steps in promoting human rights and alleviating this serious situation.

Please be assured that I will continue to look at ways to promote democracy for all citizens. Again, Thank you for sharing your views with me.

Sincerely,

Ken Lucas
Member of Congress
