[Hebei Province] Brutal Persecutions against Falun Gong Practitioners from Laishui County

Since July 22, 1999, practitioners from Laishui County have suffered cruel tortures for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Some practitioners lost consciousness for several times from the beatings and then were showered with cold water to regain their consciousness for further torturing. Some female practitioners were humiliated and stricken on areas of their bodies that would easily cause death. Some were illegally detained for over 3 months and fined 5,000 to 10,000 RMB.

Since this August, many practitioners going to appeal in Beijing as well as those staying at home have been detained in the (County) Court, the Procuratorate and the Police Department. Over 60 practitioners suffered extremely harsh beatings. An old lady in her 70s was tortured for a whole day and night. There were wounds all over her body. In particular, on her bottom, the skin was torn and the flesh gaped open. She was forced to kneel down on the ground and was denied food and drink for several days.á A teenager was beaten up once a day while being hung up, just as the adults were tortured.á Some practitioners had their clothes stripped off while being hung up and tortured. A female practitioner named Zhang Hongran was beaten to such an extent that she became barely recognizable. Her face was covered with bruises and blood and she could not open her eyes. A teenager girl around 15-16 years old was harshly beaten. Then, the torturers bent her fingers with force, and made her lose consciousness.á

Moreover, the practitioners were forced to beat up each other. A male practitioner stepped out and said calmly, "I have not beaten up anybody even before I practiced Falun Dafa. Now I am practicing cultivation in Falun Dafa, and our Teacher teaches us to follow the principle of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance" and treat everybody kindly, I will not beat anybody." Upon hearing this, the party secretary of the Town, Zhang Linjun, and the head of the Town, Li Yamin, got so hungry that they together hung this practitioner up and started to whip him with a rope. After a while, they started to use a wooden board to strike him until he lost his consciousness. After regaining his consciousness, the practitioner was forced to kneel down on the ground for a whole night.á

Such tortures as mentioned above are taking place every day. Now many practitioners are not able to walk because of the tortures.

[Beijing] The "People's Police" Beat up the People

I was taken to the local police station at around 8pm on July 17. As soon as we entered the police station, we were forced to stand facing the wall and not allowed to speak.

After a while, another practitioner and I were called out for interrogation. We were required to stand with two legs half bent and arms stretching forward, a type of physical abuse. I did not follow their order. Later, the police came over and cursed me and meanwhile, started madly striking my forehead. My head became big due to the numerous bumps. They did not let us go until 2am the next morning.á

A police was transferred there from a detention center and he brought with him all the "rules" for the criminals in the detention center to the police station. This police was well known for his toughness in the detention center. He used all his "rules" on another practitioner. The practitioner was required to stand with two legs bent and two arms stretching forward for a long time. Meanwhile, the police put two
electrical batons on her arms. As soon as the electrical batons dropped, the police would beat up the practitioner. Like this, she was tortured for a whole night. When she came back, we found her formerly good-looking face became swollen and her arms and legs turned black and purple.á

Later two of us were transferred to a Seniority Home. At 10am on July 20, we were again taken to the police station for interrogation. As usual, we were first required to stand with bent legs and stretched arms, and then were beaten up and cursed. I stood until 8pm in the evening, for over 10 hours. (Note from the editor: I have witnessed the guard torture the criminals in a detention center. Usually after one to two hours of standing like that, the strongest man would collapse.)

They treated the fellow practitioner even worse. After dinner, they started torturing her. They forced her to stand while stretching two armsá forward with an electrical baton on her two arms. At the same time, they forced her to bite an electrical baton. She would be beaten up if she refused to do so. The two police beat her for one hour. She was also required to stand in the same position until 8pm. After she came back, she could not open her mouth from the electric shock. She even had difficulty taking food.á

During the 7 days in the police station, we were required to stand for 5 nights. At 8am of the last day in the police station, the people from our village came to pick us up and sent us to the Seniority Home for fear that the people would accuse them of violating the law. At 8pm in the evening, we were brought to the police station and forced to stand until 8am of the next morning. We were then picked up by the people from the village and sent home. We were not allowed to use the toilet during the standing.á
