Below are two Falun Gong practitioners' accounts of their torture in Dawangzhuang Village, Qinan County, Shandong Province under Jiang Zemin's crack down policy.
I am Fang Qingliang (pseudonym), 35, female, and a farmer in Dawangzhuang village. I was taken to the village communist party committee quarters on the evening of November 11, 1999 [lunar calendar] and detained there. On January 4, 2000, Wang XX came to the village office followed by 8 or 9 male staff members from the village communist party committee. They were in their twenties and thirties. Li XX was among them. Wang XX ordered me to take off my coat so he could search for Jingwen (Teacher's articles). I refused. He then said if I removed my clothes, I would not be beaten. I said there wasn't such a law giving them the liberty to remove my clothes. Wang XX said this was the way the people from higher up said to do, and he told me to stand up. He then hit me until I fell down. I was forced to stand up and got beaten till I fell down again. They kept beating me this way for quite a while, then they cuffed both of my hands behind my back and had me sitting on the floor with my legs stretched out. The 8 or 9 men took turns kicking me at my hips and thighs with their boots. Li XX stood on and stomped on my thighs. It was excruciating, and I thrashed about on the floor in agony. Wang XX yelled as he was beating me: "Tonight I'll strip the skin and flesh off you." They kept beating me until I was unable to move. Then they uncuffed me and lifted me up. They forcibly stripped me naked to my waist and held my arms, while Wang XX burnt my nipples with a cigarette butt. Then Wang XX stripped my pants and underwear off. With me totally naked two men spread my legs apart while Wang XX shoved an electric baton......
The village communist party committee did not release me until I turned in 2000 Yuan (roughly 4 months' income of an average worker in China).

I am Chen Lihua (pseudonym), 36, female, and a farmer in Dawangzhuang village, Qinan County, Shandong Province. I went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. I was taken back to the village communist party committee quarters on January 4, 2000. Shortly after the policeman (Li XX) who interrogated me had left, dozens of male staff members, in their 20s' and 30s', led by Li XX, an officer in the communist party committee came to the office where I was detained. There were also three women among them. They told me to take off my clothes to search for Dafa materials. I requested that the men leave the room while the women search; but instead they sent the three women away. Bo XX forced me to take off my clothes with an electric baton. I said there was no such policy in the communist party, and the party was supposedly civil. Wang XX yelled, "Hurry up! I'll beat you to death if you don't hurry up and take off your clothes! I'll send you to hell tonight." When I took my pants off, Bo XX thrust the electric baton into my vagina, I was shocked to the floor. After a while, they told me to put on my pants and then forced me to take off my shirt. Wang XX grew impatient, he stripped me naked to the waist. Then one man held my arm and shocked me. They then cuffed one of my hands to the window. Wang XX held my other hand while Bo XX grabbed my breasts and shocked my upper body repeatedly. I was tortured this way for quite a while, then I was told to put on my shirt and sit on the floor. Dozens of men kicked my buttocks and my thighs with their leather boots; they kicked so hard that I rolled around on the floor screaming in agony. My buttocks, thighs and waist were very swollen and turned black and blue. I could not stand up. After they left, Xiao Wang picked up the electric baton and shocked my vagina again. By then I was unable to move at all. At about midnight, Li XX came back to chain me up. I asked to use the toilet, instead he shackled me to the window until next morning.
I was forced to pay 4000 Yuan (roughly 8 months' income of an average worker in China) because I went to Beijing to appeal. Later I was released on January 17. On 20th, Zhang Yuanjin, along with a dozen of village officers, came to my home demanding for 2000 Yuan for the "never-to-go-to-Beijing-to-appeal bond". I had no money so they ransacked my home and arrested me. I was detained there until January 27.
In the afternoon of December 28 (lunar calendar), the secretary of the village communist party committee took me and another two practitioners to the village office for no reason and we were detained there until January 6 (lunar calendar).
