Zhao Huimin, female, 37 years old, resident of Xizhibo Village in Laiyang City, Shandong Province, started to practice Dafa in June 1995.
Zhao Yufang, female, 71 years old, resident of Xizhibo Village in Laiyang City, Shandong Province, started to practice Dafa in 1996. Zhao Yufang is the mother-in-law of Zhao Huimin.
Zhao Huimin, together with a couple (Tian Zhao and Qin Mingying), went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in November 1999. After being released, they were asked to record their confessions by the Laiyang Politics and Law Committee. The water and the power supplies were cut off for Zhao Huimin's whole family. The private factory where Zhao Huimin's husband worked was forced to shut down. Zhao Huimin's husband had no choice but to request a divorce. Afterwards, without getting approval from their family members, the three people were sent to Laiyang mental hospital and were illegally kept there for 25 days. During that period of time, Li Tao, the doctor in charge, and another doctor Wang forced them to receive injections of imported drugs that would effectively damage their central nervous systems. They were also forced to take pills on the 18th day in the hospital. Once Zhao Huimin had symptoms of twitching and foaming from the mouth, which were ignored and the forced injections continued. The village committee notified them that they needed to pay for all the medical expenses.
On the evening of September 21, 2000, Zhao Huimin was spotted distributing materials in the village to clarify the true facts regarding the crackdown against Falun Dafa. Thus, she was forced to leave her home, and her current whereabouts are still unknown. More than ten people, including police officers and some members of the village committee searched her house thoroughly, even the section of the house that belonged to a tenant, who lived there and was not a practitioner, was searched. The next day, a fellow practitioner who was unaware of what had happened, visited her house. The village committee also held this practitioner for one day, and her house was also searched. This also affected Zhao Huimin's mother-in-law. Not only were the water and power supplies discontinued, but also her resident welfare stopped coming. They were told that, RMB 2,000 (about $240) would be fined daily until Zhao Huimin came back. Qin Mingying, who went to Beijing with Zhao Huimin, was threatened and received similar notices.
On September 20, 2000, the family of Qin Mingying, Tian Zhao and Tian Pengfei visited their relative in Qingdao city and stayed there for one day. The village committee suspected that they had gone to Beijing, therefore they held a meeting which lasted for one day. After this family returned home, Tian Zhao and Tian Pengfei (father and son) were fired by the local factory. No one would listen to their explanations.
