Gu Jiahong, male, 27, Changsha, Hunan Province

Gu Jiahong, male, 27, was a boiler worker at the Third Division of the Fifth Engineering Department of China Construction in Changsha, Hunan Province. In December 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. He was detained on the sixth floor of Changsha liaison office in Beijing. In the early morning of December 8, he fell from the sixth floor and was found dead.

Gu Jiahong obtained Dafa in September 1996. He then volunteered as an assistant at the local practice site. He was a kind, upright and hardworking person. He lived frugally. He was known as a good, meticulous and responsible person at his workplace.

On July 21 and 22 of 1999, he went to the provincial government of Hunan Province to appeal on behalf of Falun Gong. He was arrested on July 22. Upon returning to his workplace, he exchanged experiences with fellow practitioners encouraging them to be more resolute and to step forward to validate Dafa.

On September 7, when he heard that four practitioners who worked at the former Falun Gong Research Society were to be put on trial, Gu Jiahong immediately went to Beijing to lodge an appeal. He had to return home however when he learned, upon his arrival in Beijing, that the trial had been postponed. On October 20, he went to Beijing for the second time. On October 28, he lodged an appeal at the Appealing Office at Yongdingmen, Beijing. He was then arrested and tortured. On November 2, he was sent back to Changsha City, and was illegally detained for half a month. After his release, he became more active in sharing his experiences with other practitioners and encouraging them to step forward to validate Dafa.

On December 2, together with six fellow practitioners, he made another trip to Beijing to validate Dafa. On December 3, he was arrested in Tiananmen Square while carrying a Dafa banner; he was sent to and detained at Changsha City's liaison office in Beijing.

Five days later, he decided to escape the office to validate Dafa. In the early morning of December 8, he fell from the window of the sixth floor of the liaison office, and was found dead. The incidence is under investigation.

Zou Songtao, male, 28, Qingdao, Shandong Province

Zou Songtao, male, 28, a Falun Gong practitioner of Qingdao, Shandong Province, died suddenly on November 3, 2000, in Shandong Province Labor Education Camp located at Wang Village, Zibo, Shandong Province. The Labor Education Camp claimed that Zou Songtao jumped out of the building from the Central Activity Room of the Third Unit in the Labor Education Camp (this unit is exclusively for detaining Dafa practitioners). It was stated he injured his chest and punctured a lung; he died at 1:10PM after unsuccessful treatments.

Zou's family members received the notice to go to the labor education camp because he was in "critical condition" at around 10:00AM on November 4. However, in the evening, they were notified of his death. The description of the death process and the initial jurisprudential medical report were orally notified to the family members without any written legal documents. The family members requested to have a look at the cell and bed that Zou was in before his death, and the response was "absolutely impossible." The family members could not get in touch with anyone working at the labor education camp (other than those in charge of notifying them of the death of Zou), nor any other Falun Gong practitioners detained together with Zou. The labor camp responded with silence when being asked what was the reason for Zou's "jumping out of the building." A Falun Gong practitioner shall not commit suicide, what had the labor education camp done to him? Why didn't they allow the family members to contact anybody else? Why was there no answer to the family member's reasonable questions? Zou's wife was excluded from the whole process and was told that they could not let her know too much information since she was also a Falun Gong practitioner. (In addition, there were other people's bodies placed next to Zou's body.)

Zou Songtao was born on April 8, 1972. In 1995, he graduated from Nanjing University with a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry. In 1996, he joined the graduate Program of Oceanic Biology at Qingdao Oceanography College, and graduated from this program with a Master's degree in July 1997. Zou started practicing Falun Dafa in April 1996.

Zou Songtao was illegally detained in a hotel for more than ten days since July 22, 1999. On October 22, 1999, he went to Beijing to appeal when Falun Dafa was labeled as an "XX," leaving his pregnant wife home alone. After telling the truth to government officers of an appealing office in Beijing, he returned to Qingdao at the end of October. He was detained by the local police station in early November for about a month, and his daughter was born when he was in detention. On May 30, 2000, he was arrested by the local police station for organizing Dafa practitioners to share their experiences. He refused to answer any questions, to sign the statement or to cooperate with any illegal persecution. He was tortured in an iron chair with both hands handcuffed to the chair. His head and face were swollen so badly that people could hardly recognize him. He later hit the wall with his head to show his attitude. The detention center refused to accept him due to the severe injuries he was suffering. After being taken back to the local police station and locked there for two days, he was detained for another month in the detention center. There were bruises behind his ears even after he was released in early July. The last period of time he was home was from early July to July 18 . On July 18, Zou was arrested at home, sentenced to 3 years in a labor education camp. He was detained in the Qingdao Labor Education Camp from July 18 to September 26, and only family members who didn't practice Dafa could visit him. On September 26, he was transferred to Shandong Labor Education Camp without notifying his family, and none of his family members were allowed to visit him. He was told that as long as he does not retract his belief, his family would not be permitted to visit him, send him food or money to buy food. He was forced to watch videos that slander Dafa and to write a reporting statement periodically as part of the "transformation education." On November 3, 2000, Zou left this world at 28 years of age. His body was cremated on November 4, 2000 at Zhangdian in Zibo city.

To cover up the facts, the police forced Zou's family to block the news. They do not even allow them to cry at home, since others may know about Zou's death if they cry. We hope that the people who know the truth of Zou's death provide us with detailed information about the responsible parties (organization and individuals), so that we can sue them abroad in order to disclose the truth of Zou's death and punish the responsible parties through a legal channel.
