Case Description:

(Minghui.org) Students pursue higher education to have the opportunity to explore and gain knowledge that will establish a foundation for their future. Many form long-lasting friendships during this period. The following story is about how an alumnus of the Taishan Medical College was tortured to death and the involvement of two former classmates in his arrest.

Mr. Zhao's Story

Mr. Zhao Bin, from Weifang City, Shandong Province, was born on May 20, 1955. He graduated from Taishan Medical College in 1982. During his college years, he was the class monitor and a member of the basketball team. He met his wife at school, and they were once a happy couple admired by many people. After graduating, he worked as a doctor at a prison.

Zhao Bin, 58, died on April 27, 2013 at the Tilanqiao Prison in Shanghai.

Life was good for Mr. Zhao—he was married to his college sweetheart, he had a daughter, and a stable job. Unfortunately, during the prime of his life, he got cancer. He tried everything to try to cure his disease, but to no avail. He almost gave up hope until he came upon Falun Gong when it was popularly spreading in mainland China. Soon after he began to practice Falun Gong, his cancer disappeared and he regained his health. He was grateful to have been given a second chance in life. He wanted to share his story and let more people know about the practice.

After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began its persecution of Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Mr. Zhao was arrested, tortured, and harassed. He was fired from his job because he refused to give up his belief. His wife also divorced him. To avoid further persecution, he was forced to leave home, doing manual work such as packing and loading. Still, Mr. Zhao didn't complain about his life and always thought of others first.

Whenever he had a chance, he told people the truth about Falun Gong and the persecution. Mr. Zhao wanted to give Chinese people the opportunity to learn the true situation of Falun Gong and not be deceived by the CCP lies and propaganda. He also didn't want them to act as the Party's accomplice in the persecution.

Mr. Zhao remembered his classmates at Taishan Medical College. Using the meager income from the odd jobs he was doing, he made Shen Yun performance DVDs and bought a basket of fruit to bring to the former classmates he visited.

Mr. Zhao went to visit former classmate Han Baohui, but he wasn't home. He then asked the gatekeeper to give the DVD and the fruit basket to Han. After receiving the small gift from the gatekeeper, Han reported Mr. Zhao to the authorities. As a result, Mr. Zhao and another practitioner, Pang Guangwen, were arrested on the evening of April 27, 2012, by the Shanghai police.

Mr. Zhao was later illegally sentenced to four years in prison at Changning District Court of Shanghai on July 11, 2013. The sentencing document stated that charges were brought by Mr. Zhao's former classmates Han Baohui, Yi Huabin and Wang Lei. They were also witnesses against Mr. Zhao.

The Shen Yun DVDs Mr. Zhao gave to his classmates were used as “criminal evidence” in the trial. What exactly is in the DVD? The Shen Yun DVDs only contain performances by Shen Yun Performing Arts, made up of classical Chinese artists who wish to revive China's ancient and divinely-inspired culture through dance and music. Shen Yun Performing Arts is based in New York and is independent of the Chinese Communist Party.

Since its inception in 2006, the dance company has produced an all new show every year and tours six months out of the year. Although the show has become a global phenomena, performing at top venues like the Lincoln Center in New York and the London Coliseum, Shen Yun can't be seen in China. For this reason, Mr. Zhao wanted to share the performance with his classmates, and let them enjoy a show based entirely on traditional Chinese culture and values.

Mr. Zhao was transferred to Tilanqiao Prison in Shanghai on September 3, 2013. Within two months in the prison, he was tortured to death on October 19, at the age of 58.

Classmates Participate in the Persecution to Benefit Themselves

Han Baohui graduated in 1982 from Taishan Medical College. He once studied in the U.S. He currently serves as a professor and the chief physician at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He is also the director of the Lung Internal Medicine Department of Chest Specialty Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and an adviser to the Ph. D. students. He receives a special stipend from the CCP's State Council.

Han's employer, the Shanghai Chest Specialty Hospital, as well as the Shanghai Dongfang Hospital and the Changhai Hospital are among the hospitals in China accused of participating in live organ harvesting of prisoners of conscience, particularly Falun Gong practitioners.

Yi Huabin also graduated in 1982 from the Clinical Medicine Department of Taishan Medical College. He currently serves as the chief physician and is an adviser to the master's degree students at Taishan Medical College and Fudan University. He is also the director of the Radiology Department and the deputy director of Imaging Medical Research Lab.

Han and Yi are both intellectuals in China with some degree of fame. They have chosen to follow the Party in persecuting innocent Falun Gong practitioners for their own gain. If Mr. Zhao had given up his belief and acted as an accomplice in the persecution of Falun Gong, he may have also enjoyed fame and other benefits from the Chinese regime like Han and Yi. However, he chose to stand up for justice and the freedom of belief, and risk his life to let people who have been deceived by the CCP's lies know the facts of the persecution of Falun Gong. Confucius once said, “The gentleman understands what is moral. The small man understands what is profitable.”

Do Han and Yi know that they sent Mr. Zhao to his death when they reported him to the authorities and brought false charges against him? Is losing their conscience worth the personal gain they receive from the Party? They should no longer be deceived by the CCP and repent for their wrongdoing, so as to leave a path for themselves in the future. To atone for their involvement in Mr. Zhao's death, Han and Yi have the ability to investigate and expose Mr. Zhao's death, the organ harvesting issue and the Party's secrets.

During the Cultural Revolution, fathers and sons fought each other, teachers and students held grudges against each other, and spouses reported each other to government officials. People didn't trust each other. Recently, many people who persecuted their teachers or classmates during the cultural revolution have stepped forward to publicly apologize and repent of their wrongdoings.

Many Questions Still Unanswered

Today is the 10th day since Mr. Zhao passed away, and there are still many unanswered questions regarding his death. He was sentenced to fours years in prison, but in just 46 days after being transferred to Tilanqiao Prison, he suddenly died. His corpse wasn't shown to his family, but was cremated immediately after he passed away without his family's consent. He was in good health before his arrest, so he couldn't have died of natural cause. We have every reason to suspect that his organs may have been harvested against his will.

No matter whether Mr. Zhao was tortured to death or had his organs harvested against his will, the perpetrators involved in his case will be held accountable.

Under the CCP rule, no one is safe from being persecuted. The nature of the Chinese Communist Party is against kindness and the regime has spared no means in persecuting practitioners. When people all realize its evil nature, it will have nowhere to hide. When people begin to care for each other, the CCP will be unable to utilize them to persecute practitioners. When everyone is reading and spreading the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, the Party will lose its control over the minds of the people and disintegrate.

Exposing this tragedy is meant to prevent another tragedy from occurring, and exposing the evil is to eliminate evil. We hope the Taishan Medical College alumni, the staff of the hospitals and the medical community, all pay attention to victims like Mr. Zhao, and help prevent the heinous crime of live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners.
