Case Description:
Female Falun Dafa practitioner Yuan Shumei was from Chifeng City in Inner Mongolia Province. While she was detained at Hohhot First Women's Prison, she showed symptoms of having a stroke. Because Yuan refused to sign a "guarantee statement"* to give up her belief in Falun Dafa, the jail police denied her family's request to release her for medical treatment. Yuan died in February of 2003 at Hohhot First Women's Prison.
