Case Description:

(Minghui.org) Mr. Duan Shize was a resident of Chaizhuang Village, Zhenyuan County, Gansu Province. He used to suffer from stomach and joint problems but recovered after he began practicing Falun Gong. He once told people that Falun Gong turned him into a much better person.

After the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999, Mr. Duan faced frequent harassment and intimidation from the local police. He was arrested on May 15, 2004 and interrogated at Taiping Police Station. Officer Wang Xinmin knocked him to the ground and several other policemen tied his hands behind his back. The police didn't untie him until more than six hours later. He couldn't move his arms as a result.

Mr. Duan was sent to Zhenyuan County Detention Center to serve one year of prison term. He was once paraded through the streets. He protested the humiliation and was punched and kicked by several officers. He suffered severe injuries. The police then tied him up, causing bruises on his back. He often suffered from headaches and dizziness afterwards.

Mr. Duan's arms still hurt a lot and had trouble walking after he was released. He had a surgery to remove blood clots. His headache persisted and became even worse during summer times. The police kept harassing him at home and forced him to sign statements to renounce his faith.

Mr. Duan's conditions worsened and he died on August 21, 2016.
