  • Thirteen Practitioners Who Died from Abuse and Maltreatment during the Persecution

Mr. Jing Yuxue, 77 years old, was a resident from the Jintai District in Baoji City, Shaanxi Province. Before he started to practice Falun Gong in July 1996 he suffered from multiple illnesses, including severe heart disease, diabetes, stomach illness and others. In just one month after he started to practice Falun Gong all of his illnesses were gone. After the persecution of Falun Gong started on July 20, 1999, the wife of the old man's second son was illegally sentenced to forced labor, and suffered brainwashing several times. His elder son's wife left home to avoid further persecution, and her whereabouts are still unknown. The lawless persons from the police department, the neighborhood committee, and his sons' employer often went to Mr. Jing's home to harass them. The old man also needed to take care of his grandson. So, under these various pressures he died an unjust death on April 15, 2004. Even when he was about to die, the old man still said that he firmly believed in the goodness of Falun Gong.

Mr. Zhang Tianbao, 54 years old, an employee from the Qi Town Shoe Factory in Mei County, Shaanxi Province, started to practice Falun Gong in 1998. On July 18, 2000, together with thirty-six Falun Gong practitioners from Mei County and other regions, he went to Beijing to appeal and clarify the truth about Falun Gong. He was abducted in Zhuozhou City of Hebei Province and sent back to his home county. He was detained at the Mei County 8-20 Base for brainwashing. Under this enormous pressure he signed something against his will; but after he was released he again started to actively clarify the truth. In the county capital he tore down banners that contained words slandering Falun Gong. Some lawless people later followed him and there were police vehicles often parked in front of his home. After some time he showed symptoms of lung disease and then passed away in a hospital in August 2005.

Ms. Zhao Xiqin, 87 years old, lived in Shoushan Town, Dongliao County, Liaoyuan City, Jilin Province. She started to practice Falun Gong in 1998. Before then she had many illnesses, including severe heart disease, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, nephritis and stomach disease. After she started practicing Falun Gong, all of her illnesses vanished without any medical treatments. Since the vicious party started to persecute Falun Gong in July 20, 1999, she was badly impacted by the persecution because of the repeated severe persecution of her and her children. The ferocious police often used vicious means to threaten and harass her family, which heaped tremendous mental pressure on the old lady. She manifested a relapse of her heart disease and passed away on July 16, 2005.

Mr. Zhao Wenxian, 60 years old, was a Falun Gong practitioner from Wanwan Village, Huangtaigang Township, Nanyang City, Henan Province. In 2000 he went to Beijing twice to appeal for Falun Gong. Because some people reported him to the police after he wrote some slogans clarifying the truth, he was sent to a detention center and detained for over one month. The mental pressure severely affected his health, and he died in the second half of 2004.

Ms. Liu Zhonglan was a Falun Gong practitioner in Xinyang City, Henan Province. One day she was arrested for clarifying the truth. The arrest deeply affected her. After she went back home, 610 Office members often went to harass her, which exerted tremendous mental pressure on her. She died in the end of August 2005.

Ms. Zhang Yueqin was a resident of Yi Village, Daiwangcheng Town,Wei County, Hebei Province. She started to practice Falun Gong in 1996. In the first lunar month of 2000 she was illegally detained in the village school for over twenty days. Later she was taken to Daiwangcheng Town and badly beaten there. She was fined 1,000 yuan. After she was released and went back home, the vicious party officials in her village sent people to monitor her. Every time sensitive dates approached they would go to her home to harass her. Later she had a relapse of her old illness and died in 2001.

Mr. Wang Zhihai was a resident of Er Village, Daiwangcheng Town, Wei County, Hebei Province. He had previously suffered from lymphoma. After he started to practice Falun Gong he recovered from the illness. In the first lunar month of 2000 he was illegally detained in the village office for over twenty days. He experienced a relapse of his old illness and died in 2001.

Ms. Zhang Yuying, 56 years old, was a resident of Daiwangcheng Town, Wei County, Hebei Province. After she started to practice Falun Gong in 1996 her many illnesses disappeared without any medical treatment. After Falun Gong was persecuted in 1999, a group of town government officials, led by town party secretary Duan Bin, illegally detained Zhang Yuying and five other Falun Gong practitioners. They maltreated the practitioners with threats, humiliation, verbal abuse and extortion of money and property. Ms. Zhang was harassed, detained and fined many times. On top of those persecutions, her family members did not allow her to practice the Falun Gong exercises under the pressure. Under such maltreatment, her health deteriorated gradually and she died on the ninth day in the first lunar month in 2002.

Ms. Chen Jinlian, 23 years old, was a Falun Gong practitioner in Gaotie Town, Jiayu County, Hubei Province. She suffered from chronic nephritis and went to seek medical treatments from many doctors, but her illness could not be cured. After she began to practice Falun Gong in 1997 she did not need to take medicine anymore. In 2000, because she clarified the truth, lawless persons from the Qianbadou Township Police Department, and the township's "610 Office" repetitively ransacked her home, harassed and threatened her and extorted money. After her brother, a Falun Gong practitioner, was illegally sentenced to forced labor, Chen Jinlian experienced tremendous mental pressure, which caused a relapse of her old illness. She died on June 8, 2002.

Ms. Gan Lihua, 67 years old, was a Falun Gong practitioner from Wuhan City in Hubei Province. She started to practice Falun Gong toward the end of 1998. On August 13, 2004, she was abducted for the third time for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong. Shuiguohu No.2 Police Station personnel in Wuhan City sent her to Yangyuan Brainwashing Center for further persecution. On September 27, 2004, under pressure, she succumbed to "reformation." Her health and mind were badly damaged and she experienced a relapse of her illness (skin cancer). She died on July 29, 2005.

Mr. Xu Zhen was a resident of Xujiahe Village, Liushan Town, Linqu County, Weifang City, Shandong Province. Before he started his cultivation he suffered from heart disease and cirrhosis of the liver for ten years. Since he had no money for medical treatments, he had to stay in bed in home and wait for death. After he started to practice Falun Gong in 1997, his illnesses were gone. People in the whole village saw the miracle of Falun Gong through him. As a result, more than ten villagers started to practice Falun Gong. In the summer of 2001, when he was having a group Falun Gong book reading, lawless persons arrested him and took him to the county 610 Office brainwashing center, where he was severely abused, both physically and mentally. In the summer of 2002, he was again abducted and taken to the 610 Office brainwashing center and illegally detained for over twenty days. During the interim he was also beaten and threatened. Under the pressure he compromised his belief. After he went back home, the bad persons often went to his home to harass him. They also threatened his family members to make them force him to completely give up practicing Falun Gong. He died from excessive fright amidst the frenzied physical and mental torment in February 2003.

Ms. Zhu Xiaoling, 58 years old, was from Henan Province. Before she started to learn Falun Gong she had already retired for various health reasons. After she started to learn Falun Gong and practice Falun Gong her illness disappeared in several months. After July 20, 1999, the members of her neighborhood committee often went to her home to harass her. She died on June 15, 2003.

Mr. Tan Yusheng, 77 years old, lived at Fengjiatunxi, Chuanying District, Jilin City, Jilin Province. After he started to practice Falun Gong he benefited tremendously and became healthy. Since the evildoing Party started to persecute Falun Gong, the bad persons often went to his home to harass him, which made his family members fall into a state of constant terror. He died during the first lunar month of 2000.

August: Torture Deaths of 61 Falun Gong Practitioners Verified

Minghui correspondent Gu Anru reports: according to statistics on the Minghui website (the Chinese version of Clearwisdom), in August 2005, the torture deaths of 61 Falun Gong practitioners in Mainland China have been verified through civil channels.

The number of Falun Gong practitioners confirmed dead as a result of the persecution reached 2,781 on August 31, 2005.

The 61 deaths are distributed over 17 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. Nine torture deaths took place in Liaoning Province and Heilongjiang Province, eight in Sichuan Province, seven in Shandong Province, five in Jilin Province, five in Hebei Province, two each in Gansu Province, Hubei Province, Guizhou Province, Anhui Province, Beijing, and Chongqing; one death each in Hunan Province, Shanxi Province, Tianjin and Shanghai. Due to the information blockade, the region where one torture death took place requires further investigation.

Among the 61 practitioners, 25 or 41% of the total were women, and 33 or 54% of the total were above 50 years of age. Twenty-eight of the deaths occurred in 2005, including six in August 2005. The youngest victim was 21 years old. His name is Pei Feng and he lived in the Dadong District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province.

The tortures the practitioners were subjected to are shocking and inhumane. Their description reveals the ruthlessness of the persecution.

Thirty-Year-Old Mr. Wu Chunlong Tortured to Death in the Jiamusi Labor Camp

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wu Chunlong from Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province was tortured in the Jiamusi City Labor Camp until he was near death. He was completely emaciated and was unable to think clearly. When he was finally sent home on April 30, 2005, he could not speak. His condition gradually improved with the care of his family, but police from the Songlin Station kept monitoring him very closely. They constantly threatened and harassed him. Mr. Wu died on August 20, 2005, although he was only 30 years old.

One week before Wu Chunlong passed away

Wu Chunlong died at 2 a.m. on August 20, 2005

    Wu Chunlong passed away

Wu Chunlong was skin and bones when he passed away

Mr. Wu started practicing Falun Gong in 1995. In the spring of1995, Mr. Wu suffered from rheumatoid arthritis; his legs swelled up and he could not walk. He quickly recovered, however, after he started practicing Falun Gong.

In July 1999, when the CCP started the persecution, Mr. Wu went to Beijing twice to appeal to the government for justice for Falun Gong and told people the wonders of Falun Gong by relating his personal experiences to them. Twice, the authorities sentenced him to forced labor. He died as a result of the physical torture and mental torment he experienced.

Mr. Wu was first sentenced to three years of forced labor on November 3, 1999, and was tortured severely in the Jiamusi City Labor Camp during that term. In late November 2001, he was tortured for seven days on the Tiger Bench. See illustration on /emh/articles/2001/11/24/16156.html].

Other practitioners requested Mr. Wu's release, but when their pleas were rejected, they went on a hunger strike to protest. Practitioners Yao Zhongliang, Xia Zhiliang, Dong Shaohua and Li Jingfeng were locked in the Communication Room. The guards then force-fed them by inserting a tube through their noses into their stomachs. Their hands were cuffed to the sides of the bed, which only allowed them to sit or lie down all day. In addition, their feet were bound. When Mr. Wu's father wanted to meet with him, the authorities extorted a great deal of money from him. Then he was allowed to meet with his son. Finally Mr. Wu was released at the end of 2002. Mr. Wu and his father had to move five times to avoid police harassment.

In October 2003, Mr. Wu borrowed money to open a hair salon business. His studio opened on November 8, 2003. Only three days later, at noon on November 11, 2003, officer An Quanyi from the Yingjun Police Department arrested Mr. Wu and had him sentenced for the second time to three years of forced labor. To be allowed to meet with his son, Mr. Wu Chunlong's father paid almost 20,000 yuan over the course of three years.

At the Jiamusi Forced Labor Camp eight guards brutally tortured Mr. Wu. He went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution and was then force-fed and injected with unknown drugs. He lapsed into a coma a few days later, was incontinent and lost control of his bowels. Seven to eight days into the hunger strike, he lost all feeling from his lower back to his knees. He was unable to move his legs; his chest was cold, his mind was blurry, he was physically emaciated and he was dying.

The guards, however, continued torturing him, even as he was dying. One time the guards dragged him back to the washroom and sprayed him with cold water, so he woke up. Then they dragged him back to his cell. Another time he awoke with a shock in extreme pain; he saw a prisoner was fiercely digging into his left collarbone with his fingers.

Because Mr. Wu would often shout, "Falun Dafa is great," the guards encouraged prisoner Wang Fu to gag him with a towel contaminated with feces. He often did this when Mr. Wu was unconscious, so he would be choked awake by the dirty towel being stuffed into his mouth.

Since the Labor Camp was aware that Mr. Wu was dying, they were concerned about being held responsible for his death. Therefore, on April 30, 2005, prison guards Yang Chunlong and Diao Yukun sent him home in a taxi. Before allowing his family to see him, they deceived Mr. Wu's father into signing a statement saying that the family would assume full responsibility for Mr. Wu. They also tried to extort 5,000 Yuan from the family, but Mr. Wu's father had no money to give them. In the end he had to borrow 300 Yuan to give the guards.

When Mr. Wu returned home he looked like a skeleton. He couldn't sit or stand up straight, he couldn't think, he had no facial expression and he could not recognize his own father. His face was very pale; the left side of his face was much larger than the right side and one eye was severely bloodshot, obviously the result of beating. He could not answer any questions from his friends or family. He appeared to be without any memory, thoughts or reactions.

After his fellow practitioners helped him read the Falun Gong books and did the exercises with him, his health improved greatly. His swollen face returned to normal and he could at times speak a few sentences.

On May 18, 2005, the Jiamusi City Labor Camp sent a guard to the Songlin Police Station, ordering the police to closely monitor Mr. Wu. Early in the morning on May 19, 2005, Yin Xiaodong went to Mr. Wu's home, demanding that he go to the police station every month for interrogation. He said Mr. Wu would be sent back to the Jiamusi City Labor Camp once his health recovered. On May 20, 2005, Yin Xiaodong went to Mr. Wu's home again and requested that he register for a temporary residency certificate with photo identification.

Mr. Wu Chunlong was suffering from memory loss and a nervous breakdown. He had only partially recovered in terms of mental clarity. The police harassment at his home caused him to relive the terror of the labor camp. He lost his appetite and could barely drink some porridge. He had constant diarrhea, lost more weight, developed a high fever, had rapid and short breathing, was very nervous and could once again not recognize his family.

On July 20, Yin Xiaodong again went to Mr. Wu's home and demanded that his landlord give 10 yuan to the police department. Mr. Wu was so frightened by Yin Xiaodong's presence that he had a complete nervous breakdown.

Mr. Wu Chunlong passed away at around 2 a.m. on August 20 at the age of 30.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Kang Yunling passed away in exile while resisting persecution

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Kang Yunling from Liaoyuan City, Jilin Province passed away at age 36 after officials pursued him for one year.

Mr. Kang Yunling lived at Group 3, Division 11, Xining Street, Longshan District, Liaoyuan City in Jilin Province. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1993. He attended Teacher Li Hongzhi's Fa lectures twice, in Changchun City and Dalian City. After the persecution began, the authorities sent him to a forced labor camp and brutally tortured him for continuing to practice Falun Gong.

On July 5, 2004, when he was carrying truth clarification materials from Liaoyuan City to Dongfeng County, someone reported him. After he got off the bus, officers Wei Dong and Yu from the Dongfeng County Police Department beat him and then held him at the Dongfeng County Detention Center. They took 1,700 Yuan cash and four bankbooks from him.

He began a hunger strike on July 7, 2004, to protest the persecution, so the police force-fed him. His health was severely harmed and he became extremely weak.

Seeing that his condition was deteriorating, the detention center authorities did not want to take responsibility, so they released him, but only after 20 days and after extorting 2,000 Yuan from his family. He was extremely weak by then and on the brink of death. After he returned home, the police continued to constantly harass him, so he left home to escape further persecution.

Mr. Kang lived in exile, but the Liaoyuan City National Security Bureau pursued him everywhere. They often harassed his family. During this period his resources were meager because he had no source of income, but he was frugal and still did much truth-clarifying work.

In July 2005, Kang Yunling's health took a turn for the worse. His weight dropped to below 80 pounds. He passed away on August 18, 2005.

Ms. Zhan Ye'an from Guizhou Province Was Paralyzed and Died from Torture Suffered in a Labor Camp

Ms. Zhan Ye'an was 57 years old. She was an employee of the Guiyang City Medical Institute in Guizhou Province. For clarifying the truth about Falun Gong she was arrested and held in the Guizhou Province Women's Labor Camp. She became emaciated and paralyzed after being tortured over a long period of time. Ms. Zhan was finally sent home at the end of May 2005 when she was on the brink of death. She died on June 16, 2005.

After the persecution began, her employer stopped paying her salary and they stopped assigning her work. Her husband divorced her, but she still persisted in practicing Falun Gong and always clarified the truth to the police and to government officials. In August 2002, she went to Shanghai to visit her family and was arrested while clarifying the truth. The police sentenced her to three years of forced labor at the Guizhou Women's Labor Camp.

According to eyewitnesses, one day in early Spring 2003, the guards allowed Ms. Zhan to walk outside to get some fresh air, but she had no energy to move. She appeared very weak and leaned against the wall with her eyes closed. Guard Li Jianying (female) asked Ms. Zhan if she had eaten. She did not answer. The inmate assigned to watch her answered, "She had half a bag of Ramen noodles." Li Jianying cursed Ms. Zhan. Ms. Zhan shouted with all her energy, "Falun Dafa is great!" The inmates jumped on her and covered her mouth. They lifted her off her feet and quickly carried her inside.

Ms. Zhan was tortured over a long period of time in the Guizhou Women's Labor Camp. She went on a long hunger strike to protest the persecution and was brutally force-fed. Toward the end she could not take care of herself. She became paralyzed and emaciated.

The guards sent her to the Police Department Hospital on the third floor of the camp. At the end of May 2005, seeing that she was dying, the guards sent her home. She exclaimed with a weak voice upon returning to her home, "Falun Dafa is great!" Ms. Zhan Ye'an passed away less than 20 days later, on June 16, 2005.

Mudanjiang Practitioner Mr. Ning Jun Dies after Suffering Repeated Torture

Mr. Ning Jun, over 50 years old, lived on Ertiao Road, Xian District, Mudanjiang City in Heilongjiang Province. He began to practice Falun Gong in 1996 and strove to be a good person as well as continually to improve his character. After he started to practice Falun Gong, he returned the extra housing space that he did not pay for and bought Falun Gong books, a VCR and a recorder to help other people learn Falun Gong.

Before July 20, 1999, Mr. Ning and fellow practitioners went to Russia to introduce Falun Gong there. On July 20, 1999, the unprecedented persecution of Falun Gong started in China. On July 30, practitioners who went to Russia to spread Falun Gong were issued a warrant for their arrest and were repatriated from Vladivostok, Russia. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs teamed up with the National Security Bureau and the Public Security Bureau and arrested them at Dongning Customs. Their passports, identifications and belongings were confiscated. After many investigations, the police could not find any evidence of a crime. Then they obtained their fingerprints and made them sign a statement saying that they would no longer go abroad. Only then did the police notify the practitioners' families to bail them out.

On September 7, 1999, Mr. Ning went to Beijing to appeal for justice on behalf of Falun Gong with fellow practitioners. Three days later, the local Beijing police arrested them and took them to a Beijing police station. On September 11 the police tried to send them to a detention center but were unsuccessful. The next day, some officials from the 610 Office in Mudanjiang City's Beijing liaison office handcuffed them and took them to the Mudanjiang City Public Security Bureau. They also confiscated more than 4,000 yuan from the practitioners. Afterwards, all the practitioners were held in Mudanjiang City's No. 2 Detention Center for further persecution. At the end of 1999, Mr. Ning was sent to a brainwashing center. On January 2, 2000, he was returned to the detention center and sentenced to two years of forced labor.

On March 17, 2000, Mr. Ning Jun was transferred to the Sidao Forced Labor Camp. While in the forced labor camp, because he was a steadfast practitioner, the police transferred him to different groups to be tortured.

Mr. Ning was tortured to the point of having fluid accumulate in his liver, and his abdomen became very large. He had difficulty walking and also had blood in his urine. Qiao Jianwei, the secretary in charge of administration even incited inmates to assault Mr. Ning, but the policemen turned a blind eye to it. They could not "transform" Mr. Ning, so they sent him to the group that was designated for the persecution of Falun Gong. Police officers in that group feared that he might die in the prison, so they sent him to the hospital. He was diagnosed with liver ascites. They thought he would not live much longer. The forced labor camp had to release him on bail for medical treatment.

After he returned home, the police officers from the prison regularly interrogated him. The local police officers often harassed him and disturbed him even further. Five months later, the chief of the administration section, Ma Libiao, and political head Li Longyu deceived Mr. Ning into coming to the forced labor camp. They detained him for further persecution and even kept him for nine months beyond the end of his term. He was released on October 11, 2001.

On November 11, 2001, just one month later, officers from the Xi'an Public Security Sub-bureau in Mudanjiang City arrested him again. They beat him, shocked him with an electric baton and tempted him with monetary gain. They used various means to interrogate him and attempted to force a confession from him. He did not give in to their demands and went home within a week. He again clarified the truth about Falun Gong.

On September 9, 2002, after Mr. Ning had been on a police wanted list for half a year, a patient reported him when he clarified the truth of the persecution at the Hongqi Hospital in Mudanjiang City. Officers from the Aimin Public Security Sub-bureau of Mudanjiang City arrested and tortured him. He was later held in a detention center.

During the detention, Mr. Ning was tortured until he was in critical condition. At the end of 2003, the detention center issued two terminally ill notices to the Aimin Public Security Sub-bureau that was handling the case, but the officers ignored the notices for various reasons. Just before the 2004 Chinese New Year, he was sentenced to five years in prison and sent to the Mudanjiang Prison.

In September 2004, Mr. Ning was extremely ill and needed to be hospitalized. Although his family paid them a fee, the prison delayed and did not send him to the police hospital until November. At that time, they released him on bail for medical treatment.

After Mr. Ning went home, he read Falun Gong books and practiced the exercises himself. He helped others by continuing to clarify the truth to them. Because of the long-term persecution, however, Mr. Ning never recovered his health. His condition deteriorated and he died on August 12, 2005.

Every death represents the brutal loss of an innocent life. Good will be rewarded and evil will reap its own peril. The day when those who persecute others will pay for their debts is imminent.

Repost: Horrifying Conditions in Jilin Prison's "Naked District" - Second Urgent Appeal to Rescue Falun Gong Practitioner Yang Guang

Mr. Yang Guang, 50, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Changchun. Because of his steadfast belief, he was severely persecuted, and became paralyzed from the waist down from a cruel torture used to extort evidence from him. He is currently being held in Jilin Prison's "naked district," where he suffers humiliation and misery in the company of psychotic, disabled inmates.

Mr. Yang Guang was held in the No. 7 Public Security Bureau, where officials brutally tortured him in order to extort evidence. The police beat him ruthlessly, using all kinds of torture devices and broke his right leg. Later his hipbone became necrotic. The police had to carry him into the prison. Now, his right leg is disabled, his toes are deformed and festering, and he can no longer take care of himself. He is fifty years old but looks like a frail old man with his white hair and emaciated body.

Mr. Yang Guang is held in the "naked district" of the prison, where inmates are forbidden to wear pants all year long. Because of his paralysis, inmates made him a special chair, similar to a wheelchair. It has a steel pipe structure with four wheels, and a board for the back and sides, and with a big hole in the seat. Whenever he needs to relieve himself, other inmates wheel him to the toilet area, but because the side of the chair is blocked by a board, he cannot clean himself afterwards. He is surrounded by urine, feces and filthy smells continuously.

This district where Yang Guang and other disabled and psychotic inmates are being held never receives any sunlight. The conditions are intolerable, and it is extremely hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The sleeping quarters measure less than 60 cm (24 in.) in length, and the food is very poor, with no fat or oils used. When it is time to clean, they wheel Yang Guang to the water room, spray him with a pressure hose, and wash him with a mop, calling it a "cosmetic shower."

Mr. Yang was recently sent to the Province Center Hospital. His old injuries have not healed, and now his upper extremities are also disabled from intensified persecution. He is now completely disabled, yet the police are still persecuting him. They sent him back to prison from the hospital.

Practitioner Yang Yuting Forced to Become Destitute and Homeless; Her Daughter had to Stop Going to School

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yang Yuting from Dongli District, Tianjin was followed and arrested by the State Security Police in January, 2005. In the detention center, Yang Yuting and another practitioner, Ms. Zhang Xiujuan, went on a hunger strike to protest the unlawful arrest. Finally, Ms. Yang was diagnosed with a serious kidney disorder, so the police had to send her and Ms. Zhang back home.

After the persecution of Falun Gong started on July 20, 1999, Yang Yuting and her mother went to Beijing to appeal the injustices against Falun Gong, but they were taken back by Dongli District police sub-station officers and illegally detained for two weeks. Later, because Ms. Yang continued to practice Falun Gong she was forcefully taken away from home and sent to a brainwashing class. She resisted cooperating with the evil's requirements to give up Falun Gong, and was finally sent to a labor camp for further persecution. After that, her mother was also imprisoned in Banqiao Labor Camp and even her young daughter, who was in primary school, was also taken to the police station a few times. The police harassed the family like hoodlums, using such methods as bending the gate, picking the lock, forcing their way in and ransacking the home. Yang Yuting's husband (who was not a practitioner) couldn't bear this excessive harassment and left home in 2002.

After a period of time, Yang Yuting was compelled to become destitute and homeless with her daughter, in order to avoid the constant harassment.

Ms. Yang was arrested again in January of this year. After she was released, even though her body was extremely weak and she needed to be in bed at home, the police still incited the residents' committee to continuously come and harass her. Worried about Yang Yuting's health, her mother wanted to sell their house in order to get some money, but the police threatened the real estate company and repeatedly withheld the payment. Yang's mother questioned why they acted like children and caused such difficulties in other's lives. After the payment was eventually made, the authorities intimidated the moving company into monitoring and reporting on them. The police continued the monitoring and harassment of the family at their newly rented house.

The family of three was compelled to become homeless again in April of this year and the daughter also had to drop out of primary school and leave town.

Recently it was reported on the Internet that the Tianjin police were incited by the Chinese Communist Party to intensify and expand the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in the area.

How the Authorities Persecuted Practitioner Mr. Liu Boyang from Changchun City

Mr. Liu Boyang is a medical doctor at the Qianwei Hospital in Jilin Province. Mr. Liu and his parents started to practice Falun Gong in 1995.

After July 20, 1999, when Jiang's regime launched the campaign to eradicate Falun Gong, the police at the Zhengyang Community police station, Luyuan District, and the authorities at the Zhengyang Community office, harassed Mr. Liu's family many times. Because she went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong, his mother was detained and sent to a forced labor camp both in October of 1999 and again in February of 2000. In addition, the authorities arrested Mr. Liu's father at the beginning of 2001, put him in the Xinglongshan brainwashing center and persecuted him.

In February of 2002, the police from the Zhengyang Community, Luyuan District, frequently broke into Mr. Liu's home and harassed him. During this period, his grandmother happened to be ill and stayed at his home so that he could care for her. Because the police frequently came by to intimidate him, she became frightened and her health quickly deteriorated. Mr. Liu was forced to send his grandmother to stay with other relatives.

After the March 5 incident in 2002, when practitioners tapped into the cable TV transmission in Changchun with truth-clarification programs, Chen Fengshan, the director of the Zhengyang Police Station of the Luyuan District, ordered the arrest of every single Falun Gong practitioner on record. The police in Changchun City arrested over 5,000 practitioners. In particular, the 610 Office and the officers at Zhengyang police station constantly came to Mr. Liu's home to arrest his family. To avoid further persecution, the whole family was forced into exile.

On March 9, 2002, without going through any legal processes or having any legal documents, the police officers from the Zhengyang police station and from the detective group of the Luyuan District unlocked Mr. Liu's home with a master key and searched it. Then they dispatched a couple of officers to stay in a room on the ground floor, waiting for the family to return. To find out their whereabouts, a few officers from the fourth group of the detective group went to Mr. Liu's workplace on March 16 and arrested him. Failing to catch his parents, the officers took Mr. Liu to the local police station and locked him up there.

At the Zhengyang police station, the police locked up many Falun Gong practitioners in an iron cage. They packed eight practitioners in a tiny cage, including one in his sixties or seventies. With so many people packed in such a tiny cage, there was no room for anyone to sit so the practitioners had to stand overnight, while Officer Wang played a recorded tape that slandered the founder of Falun Gong. The next day, the police sent Mr. Liu to the Daguang Detention Center where they detained him for fifteen days for "disrupting the social order." When Liu questioned what social order he had disrupted, the officers were unable to answer.

On April 1, when Mr. Liu's fifteen days of detention had passed, the police took him back to his workplace. He had walked just a few steps towards the entrance gate when seven or so people rushed to him, covered his head, and tossed him into a car. Trying hard to get away, he questioned who they were and why they arrested him. Claiming they were officers from Changchun Police Department, they took him to a secret location and tied him to a chair for two whole days. It turned out that they were spies from the National Security Bureau. They found out Mr. Liu's cell phone number from the call logs of another practitioner who called him right before he was arrested himself.

On June 27, 2002, the officers from the Political Protection Section of the Luyuan District finally managed to arrest the three members of Mr. Liu's family, including Mr. Liu himself. They confiscated 5,000 yuan in cash and two cell phones that Mr. Liu's family members had. Zhu Zhishan, Chief of the Political Protection Section, who persecuted practitioner Zhi Guixiang to death, instructed officer Yuan Dachuan to extort a confession out of Mr. Liu. Yuan is a frontrunner officer who has arrested hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners and was awarded many times for his notorious efforts in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Together with other officers, Yuan tried very hard to achieve the goal of extorting a confession. They tortured Liu with various means, including beating, kicking, slapping his face with leather shoes, tying in ropes, and the "Big Hang Up," a particularly painful method of wrapping up Liu's arms behind his back, handcuffing him, and then hanging him up and swinging him or pulling his legs down. After a few minutes of such cruel torture, Mr. Liu's arms felt as if they were being torn apart and he sweated profusely. After the torture, Mr. Liu's hands were numb and he had a lot of difficulty holding anything. It took him a few months to recover. While torturing Mr. Liu, officer Yuan shouted, "I've killed a few Falun Gong (practitioners) already. I don't have to take any responsibility if I kill any more of you!" Also Zhu Zhishan burned a portrait of the Falun Gong founder in front of Mr. Liu.

Four days later, they took Mr. Liu to the Tiebei Detention Center of Changchun City for further imprisonment. It was summer, but the cells in the detention center were packed with people. Each person had only two dozen centimeters (less than one foot) to stand. Even if they slept on their sides, they still had to lie on top of one another. If anyone went to the toilet, he would have no room to sleep when coming back. As a result, Mr. Liu developed scabies on his body. He itched very severely, so he was unable to sleep at all. Altogether, the authorities imprisoned Mr. Liu in the detention center for four full months. When he asked them why they imprisoned him for such an extended period of time, the officers answered, "Falun Gong is a special incident and therefore must be handled specially."

On October 29, 2002, the authorities took Mr. Liu to the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp of Changchun City to imprison him for another two years. Also imprisoned in the labor camp were hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners from Changchun, Siping, Liaoyuan, Baishang, Tonghua, and other regions. The authorities in the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp committed too many incidents of torture to count them all. After the March 5, 2002, incident, Wang Yanwei and Wang Jiangang, the directors of the forced labor camp, launched a so called "storming of fortified positions" in order to accomplish the order of "converting Falun Gong practitioners." To convert the practitioners who upheld their belief in Falun Gong, they used various means of cruel torture.

Called by the inmates the "Iron Wolf Group," the second group was the most vicious in the labor camp. Yang Guang, the head of the group, hung an iron axe in his office to further his brutal image. Although he rarely tortured practitioners in person, he instructed the officers in his group to do so.

Among the officers under Yang Guang, officer Zhu Shenglin was the worst. He always directly tortured practitioners. In addition, he wrote a song to slander Falun Gong and forced everyone to sing it. After he broke practitioner Mr. Sun Xianming's arms, Zhu Shenglin stopped Mr. Sun from visiting a doctor. As a result, his arms became permanently paralyzed and he was unable to live without assistance. Despite practitioner Sun's situation, the prison officers in the forced labor camp did not allow anyone to help him. Every evening, practitioner Sun, without any help from others, was forced to use his teeth to carry his clothing to his bed. Later when practitioner Sun was critically ill, the authorities at the labor camp, afraid that he would die in the camp, reluctantly sent him home. Not to spare him verbally after he left the labor camp, officer Zhu Shenglin fabricated the rumor that practitioner Mr. Sun was sent back home because he signed a Conversion Statement.

On another occasion, after practitioner Mr. Shao Weixin regained consciousness after being tortured, officer Zhu Shenglin continued to beat him fiercely right in front of hundreds of other people. As a result of the brutal persecution, Mr. Shao later collapsed mentally. Still the prison police claimed that he was just pretending. Even after officer Zhu was moved to the cafeteria, he continued persecuting practitioners. When he saw practitioners holding hunger strikes, he bullied them.

Mr. Zheng Jinchun was another practitioner who was persecuted in the labor camp. To prevent him from sleeping, the prison officers ripped off his bed clothes, opened the window, and poured ice-cold water on him.

In December of 2002, the winter season of northeastern China, the authorities in the forced labor camp forced Mr. Liu Boyang to sit on the ice-cold concrete floor all day long. They prevented him from sleeping at night and forced him to receive their brainwashing propaganda that vilified Falun Gong during the day.

Among the officers actively involved in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners were Liu Xiaoyu, Zhao Dongli, and Sun Haibo. They used electric batons, triangle belts, and handcuffs to beat many practitioners in the Second Group.

All practitioners were forced to do heavy-duty labor every day. The work in the Second Group was related to a printing business. Practitioners were forced to work until eleven at night or later. When somebody visited the camp, the authorities there hid the tools and denied that they made any of the prisoners work.

In June of 2003, practitioners were forced to plow land for two weeks. To remove the weeds, they had to crawl on the ground. With their wrists swollen and hands covered with blood, some practitioners who were very weak because of extended torture collapsed while at the farm. They had to be piggybacked back to the prison.

To those who refused to cooperate, the police showed no mercy. In April of 2004, officer Sun Haibo beat practitioner Mr. Wang Jinbo for a few hours using an electric baton simply because he refused to work. Because of the extended brutal beatings, officer Sun broke his baton. Having learned of the cruel torture, Mr. Wang's family filed a complaint to the authorities. In response, the labor camp authorities quickly called in a few inmates to serve as their "witnesses" and denied the allegation. Furthermore they moved Mr. Wang to another group to cover up what they did.

In June of 2004, when practitioner Mr. Liu's prison term was up, the authorities refused to release him. On the contrary, they extended his term for another forty-seven days.

On August 17, 2004, the authorities from Mr. Liu's local residence, the officers from the 610 Office, and two officers from Zhengyang police station, took Mr. Liu to the police station and demanded that he sign a Guarantee Statement, which Mr. Liu refused to do. The authorities tried to take him back to the Xinglong brainwashing center for further persecution. In doing so, they extorted 700 Yuan from his family. Mr. Liu was able to escape and avoid further persecution for the time being.

Presently the authorities at the Zhengyang Community Office are planning to further persecute Mr. Liu, while the authorities at the Qianwei Hospital of Jilin Province, Mr. Liu's former workplace, have decided not to allow him to return to work.

Calling for the Rescue of Mr. Xie Hanzhu and other Falun Gong Practitioners in Meizhou, Guangdong Province

Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Xie Hanzhu, Ms. Guo Yafen and three other practitioners endured all kinds of inhumane torture after their illegal arrest on February 3, 2005. They were arrested by officers from the Meizhou Municipal Public Security Bureau in Meijiang City. Police Xue Qingwen, Huang Songfeng, Chen Zhidong, Tian Xuelong, Li Jianlu and others carried out cruel torture to extract evidence from practitioner Mr. Xie on the third floor of the bureau, particularly from February 23 to February 28. The other practitioners' cases await investigation.

Mr. Xie, about 40 years old, was originally a government official. He suffered from stomach pain, hemorrhoids, malignant dysplasia of his chronic rhinitis, and so on, but after practicing Falun Gong, his health quickly returned. However, all these things have changed because of the severe persecution forced upon him. Now, he is riddled with severe injuries both internally and externally. He is extremely feeble, and he can pass away at any moment. The cruel tortures Mr. Xie has endured that have been documented are as follows:

Police handcuffed Mr. Xie's hands behind his back and onto the metal water pipe on the wall and did not allow him to sleep or close his eyes for five days and four nights in a row. Police Xue Qingwen used handcuffs to cuff Mr. Xie's palms together, and at the same time made fun of and tormented him. Police Li Jianlu, Chen Zhidong and several other people pushed Mr. Xie to squat down and forced his back against the back of a hard wooden chair. Sometimes, they pulled hard on the cuffs, after handcuffing both his hands behind his back and against the chair. They used a wooden stick to beat his palms and fingers, which became black and numb for a long time. Sometimes, after they looped the rope around his body and neck, covered his eyes and sealed his mouth with gummed paper, police inserted two lit cigarettes into his nostrils until he fainted. Then they splashed cold water on him to wake him up. The police then placed a heavy item on his head so that both of his legs became numb. Then, they lifted both his feet to tread on Master Li's picture. Police also placed an alarm close to his ears and turned up the volume to torture him until 2 a.m. Later, they cuffed him to the metal pipe and did not allow him to sleep. At dawn, the day shift police took turns interrogating him. Chen Zhidong, Li Jianlu and other police cuffed Mr. Xie's hands behind the back, one over the shoulder and the other wrapped around from behind, and then used rope to hang him up, calling it "hanging up an airplane." Policemen Tian Xuelong, Huang Songfeng, Li Jianlu and others cuffed Mr. Xie's hands behind his back to the water pipe and used up six big barrels of dirty water in two successive nights to pour on him and forced him to drink the urine and the dirty water in the barrels. A perpetrator weighing 70-80 kilograms jumped on his back, causing serious injuries to his back and made him unable to squat for a long time. He still suffers from severe back pain at present. Policeman Chen Zhidong ganged up with the other police and used a hammer to pound on his back through a stack of books, causing internal injuries and pain whenever he took a breath. Xue Qingwen, Tian Xuelong and other stomped on Mr. Xie's toes (he was wearing only slippers) with the heels of their leather shoes to force him to sign his name to papers admitting guilt.

On February 28, after Mr. Xie was sent back to the Qinhuang Prison, he described to the police officer (surname Wang or Huang) from the procurator's office the brutal torture and injuries he received, but the police officer turned a blind eye with the excuse that he did not see it. Later on, because of the serious injuries Mr. Xie suffered, his health deteriorated rapidly.

The police who handled the case from Meijiang District Public Security Bureau filed report to their superiors requesting to arrest, and the District Procurator's office hurriedly gave the authorization on March 8. The Meijiang District Court illegally brought Mr. Xie and other Falun Gong practitioners to trial on June 10. The trial was aborted in an atmosphere of righteousness amidst a chorus of "Falun Dafa is good."

The perpetrators were unwilling to give up, Chen Xuejun, the principal organizer, and others illegally and secretly held court once more on July 5. It was said that in the "initial trial," Mr. Xie and another Falun Gong practitioner from the Northwest were illegally given a severe sentence of 12 years, and at present they are imprisoned in the notorious Qinhuang Prison.

Mr. Xie once used the fact that Meijiang District Court violated due process and deprived him of his right to have legal representation as reasons to send out his complaint and power of attorney through the procuratorate stationed at the lockup. He authorized his family members to file complaints on his behalf and investigate the conduct of the district procuratorate and the court, both having violated the law in the name of enforcing the law. His family members accordingly submitted a written statement to the departments concerned, but the two levels of disciplinary inspection at the city and the district, the National People's Congress, the municipal procuratorate, the court and the departments concerned have yet to deal with it fairly. Some departments passed the buck by only forwarding the family member's letter to the Meizhou Municipal 610 Office and Political Committee.

It was reported that this case was transferred to the Meizhou Municipality People's Intermediate Court. The police authorities are afraid of exposure, so they have not allowed his family members to visit him.

Li Yangfang from Chengdu City Was Tortured to the Point that Hospital Officials Were Afraid to Accept Her for Treatment

Ms. Li Yangfang from Wenjiang District, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, after starting practicing Falun Gong practitioner changed from a formerly seriously ill person to a healthy and kind person. After the persecution of Falun Gong began, she was several times subjected to severe torture. In 2003, she was illegally detained in the Seventh Team of Sichuan Province Zizhong Women's Labor camp. Due to her severe torture injuries, even the hospital refused to admit her.

Before she started practicing Falun Gong, Li Yangfang had hepatitis and gallstone. Neighbors would avoid meeting her for fear of infection. In March 1998 Li Yangfang started practicing Falun Gong. Because she is illiterate, it was difficult for her to learn Falun Gong. But, Li Yangfang was persistent in learning the principle of Falun Gong and doing the exercises every day. She conducted herself in line with "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance". Gradually, all her illness symptoms disappeared. She always was in high spirits. She had completely changed into another person. When she met with misfortune she looked for the reasons within herself. She no longer fought for advantages. She tried to do as much work as possible at home. When she was sick, her family had spent a lot of money. Now she not only saved the previous medical expenses but was also able to work in field to reduce the family burden. The whole family witnessed the miracle and awe of Falun Gong. They had never been happy like this before.

This happiness didn't last long. In July 1999 the persecution started. Li Yangfang's own experience told her that, "Falun Dafa is great!" It was Teach Li Hongzhi and Falun Gong that gave her a new life. With this realization, Li Yangfang went to Beijing to petition [for Falun Gong] in March 2000. She was arrested as soon as she arrived at Tiananmen Square. One police officer stepped with a foot on her face, asked who her Teacher is and ridiculed her. After Li Yangfang was illegally detained at her home province liaison office in Beijing, the police confiscated all the money she carried. She was taken back to Wenjiang and detained for fifteen days. Then she was sent to detention center and incarcerated for another month. She was forced to peel electric cable everyday. Even after her hands were bleeding, she dared not to stop because inadequate work was subject to a penalty.

Her family also felt great pressure. The government secretary Li and Li Fuquan fined her husband 10,000 yuan. Because the family could not afford to pay it, they took away her son's tractor and kept it for twenty days to force her family to pay. Her family members borrowed 3,000 yuan with great difficulty and signed for the rest with an IOU notice.

In May 2000 perpetrators Xu Dongliang and Li Fuquan arrested Li Yangfang and Xu Erba (over 70 years old) and took them to the township government. At around 11:00 a.m. Xu Dongliang urged others to force her to stand under the sun till four or five o'clock in the afternoon. Another time, the township government personnel had detained five Falun Gong practitioners including Li Yangfang, Xu Erba for one week and forced them to cut grass for two days. Another day, Xu Dongliang incited several female government cadres to expose the food to the sun and ordered several Falun Gong practitioners to eat while squatting. Everybody refused to eat that day. Xu Dongliang said that the river control workers all must eat beside the restroom. Xu Dongliang also calls several Falun Gong practitioners to pick eggplant leaves in his field. In the evening the practitioners were detained in a security room and bitten by mosquitoes.

On July 6th, 2003, several officers from the Shouan Police Station rushed into Li Yangfang's home and said someone reported that she has Falun Gong materials. They searched her home without a permit. The police had not found the materials, so they took away the Falun Gong exercise tapes, lecture videos and a recorder, a copy of Zhuan Falun and other Falun Gong books. She was also taken to the Shouan Police Station. In the evening, whenever she fell asleep, the police would wipe her face with dirty rags. Then she was held in a detention center. After one month she was duped into thinking they would send her back home but was actually sent to the Chengdu Detention Center. Later, she was sent to the Seventh Team of Sichuan Province Zizhong Women's Labor Camp for re-education through labor.

During her time there, the evildoing persons forced Li Yangfang to write a daily report of her thoughts. She was detained in a single cell. Yang Lifeng was the one responsible for her "conversion." Because she was illiterate [and could not write the required "self-examinations"], Yang hit her breasts twice. Li Yangfang almost fainted and had a hard time catching her breath. Yang Lifang was scared and began to cry. Actually, it was police officer Zhang Xiaofang who had urged her to do so. Later Yang Lifeng wrote the "Three Letters" for her. Police officer Zhang Xiaofang ominously admonished Li Yangfang and ordered her to fetch boiling water, carry food and carry a big basin of vegetable soup every day. Li Yangfang is short. The stairs are many. It took her tremendous effort to load those things.

One day a kind police officer helped her. Huang Zhihua from the people administration committee also helped her several times. Zhang Xiaofang had slapped her on the face several times. After each time carrying the food, she had to deliver food to every practitioners who were doing needlework. One day, Zhang Xiaofang was in a bad mood while Li carried the vegetable soup and scolded, saying she was selfish. She ordered her into the office and closed the door. She maliciously grabbed her hair and slapped her hard on her face. When she fell on the floor she told her to stand up immediately. Because Li Yangfang felt dizzy and could not get up, a police officer named Mao took a broom and swept it over her face.

The police also forced practitioners to pick up 10 kilograms of pigs hair every day. If the task was not fulfilled, Li Yangfang had to work extra hours, up to 2:00 a.m. She would be ordered to get up around four to five o'clock in the morning and repeat the task. Every day was the same. They were not allowed to say that they were forced to work extra hours, they were forced to say that they volunteered to work extra hours.

Police officer Zhang Xiaofang also urged Zhang Xiaoyan to monitor Li Yangfang. She was always beaten. Many times she had to eat under the sun on the concrete floor. Picking up the pig hair was also done under the sun. The workshop didn't let her inside. Whenever Zhang Xiaofang was not happy, practitioner Li got nothing to eat. Once, when needling artificial flowers, Li Yangfang had two rows left when dinner began. She was about to go for dinner first and back to work later. Zhang Xiaofang saw it and scolded her. Zhang Xiaofang punished her to stand at the main entrance, watching Li Yangfang finishing the work. She also kicked Li Yangfang while scolding her.

The police used obscene methods to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. They put Teacher Li's picture on the floor and tried to force the practitioners to insult Teacher's picture. They would use all kinds of ways to torture the practitioner if he refuse to do so. They torture the practitioners this way every day. One day the practitioners had to work until 2 a.m. or 3 a.m. before returning to the cell. A drug addict Zhao Yan then came over to monitor the practitioners to read some phrases that defame Falun Gong. Those who refused to follow her instructions would be reported in. The next day police officer Zhang Xiaofang ordered practitioner Li Yangfang to go to office and slapped her on the face and scolded her.

In this living hell, Li Yangfang's body and mind were enormously devastated. Her body nearly broke down. Afterwards she was transferred to the Eighth Team. Section head Li, seeing that she recovered slightly, forced her and others who were in their 50s and 60s to work in each production team. The task was tremendous. They had to work extra hours without rest. Because of the long-term trauma to her body and mind, Li Yangfang suddenly fainted at the beginning of 2004. After she rested for a while she was compelled to work intensively again.

In February 2004 Li Yangfang fainted again in the workshop. She was carried to the hospital for examination. The situation was extreme. The labor camp informed the Wanchun Town government to send her home the next day because of fear to take the responsibility in case she died inside. After being back home, Wanchun Town government officials sent two people and forced her to put her fingerprints on a piece of paper. The paper deformed Falun Gong and ordered her not to practice again. She felt so terrible then and moaned. They took that as her consent and went away.

Before this persecution, Falun Gong turned Li Yangfang from a patient into a healthy good person. After persecution started, Li Yangfang endured to have her family's property confiscated, paid a fine and imprisoned for forced labor. Because she was not allowed to read Falun Gong books or practice the exercises in addition to the physical torture and mental torment she was devastated again, changing from a healthy person to a person that could not be admitted to a hospital.

Three Practitioners from Hebei and Anhui Provinces Were Persecuted to Death

Ms. Li Guiying, 67, was a resident of Qiangnian Village, Wangcheng Town, Wei County, Hebei Province. After Ms. Li started practicing Falun Gong, her heart disease and back pain went away. Her skin became delicate like a young woman's and she regained her menstrual period. Although she was illiterate, she was able to read Zhuan Falun after several months of practice. She tried hard to do everything according to Master's teaching and to be a good person. During the Chinese New Year in 2000, her daughter-in-law, who is also a Falun Gong practitioner, was detained by the village committee because she went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. In the village committee, the village and town officials loudly scolded and threatened Ms. Li. They also called up the police car and tried to take her to the town government. Ms. Li was so frightened that she passed out. Her family members came and brought her home. After that, Ms. Li's health deteriorated day by day. Whenever she saw village or town officials enter her yard, she became so scared that she trembled. By 2003, she was diagnosed with a serious condition in which her red blood cells couldn't reproduce. In March 2003, Ms. Li died.

Mr. Miao Youzhong, 64, was a resident of Hengjian Village, Xiheying Town, Wei County, Hebei Province. After Mr. Miao started practicing Falun Gong in 1997, his heart disease, lung disease, and esophageal cancer all went away. After the persecution of Falun Gong started on July 20, 1999, officials from the 610 Office of Xiheying Town and village officials often went to Mr. Miao's home to harass and threaten him. This caused him to live under a cloud of constant fear. He developed depression, and his health condition became worse and worse. Mr. Miao died in March 2005.

Mr. Liu Haibo was a resident of Taihe, Anhui Province. After Mr. Liu started practicing Falun Gong in 1997, his illnesses disappeared and he regained his health. After the Jiang regime started the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, the local police detained Mr. Liu four times and forced him to attend brainwashing classes. He was fined hundreds of yuan and all his Falun Gong materials were confiscated. Because Mr. Liu was not able to practice Falun Gong, his illnesses came back and he died in September 2001.
