(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 19 cities or counties in 10 provinces. In this report, 11 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 71 practitioners were illegally arrested.

At around 3:00 p.m. on February 18, 2009, Ms. Wang Jingxian and her husband (who is not a practitioner) were taken into police custody. The police then told her daughter (who is not a practitioner) to spread the lie that she was hit by a car. The police expected other practitioners to come visit Ms. Wang at her home in Tonghe Town, Pingdu City. The following day, Ms. Zhang Shuhua, a practitioner surnamed Zhan, and Ms. Wang Yuzhen were taken into custody by police officers who were staked out there.

In February 2009, several site that produced informational brochures exposing the persecution were sabotaged. 41 practitioners were arrested. The police also confiscated computers, printers, Falun Dafa books, brochures, and DVDs.

This is the second round of large-scale arrests since November 19, 2008, when over 30 practitioners were taken into custody.

On the morning of February 15, Mr. Su Xianqing, who lives in Rengezhuang Town in Fengrun District, Tangshan City, was taken into custody by officers from the Rengezhuang Town Police Station for telling others about Falun Dafa. The police extorted 5,000 yuan from his family and demanded that they sign a guarantee statement promising on behalf of Mr. Su that he was to quit practicing Falun Gong without his knowledge. Mr. Su was released and has returned home.

At the end of December 2008, the Lanxi City Court unlawfully sentenced Ms. Wu Jianfen to four years in prison and Mr. Shao Xiaoshan to three years in prison. Both practitioners have appealed their cases to the intermediate court. Ms. Zhao Shuying, Mr. Shao Ruiliang, Mr. Fan Jianglong, and Mr. Fan Jiangrui have been held at the Lanxi Detention Center for several months.

It has been reported that Mr. Chen Hu and his wife, Ms. Wen Shumei, in Yongjia County were taken into custody in January 2008. Mr. Chen has been held at the Zhejiang Province No. 2 Prison. Ms. Wen has been held at the Zhejiang Province Women's Prison.

On the afternoon of February 18, Ms. Hu Suzhen, in her seventies, who lives on East Yulin Street, was taken into custody by officers from the Wangjiaguai Police Station while she was telling others about the persecution. Her whereabouts remain unknown.

On February 17, Ms. Mou Jianchun, who lives in the Zaoziping area in Panzhihua City, was taken into custody. Mr. Yu Chuancheng and Mr. Liu Yongbo were taken into custody at the same time.

Officials at the Urumqi Women's Forced Labor Camp have tortured practitioners steadfast in their belief in Falun Dafa for an extended period time by applying electric charges while beating them with electric batons, depriving them of sleep, forcing them to stand, handcuffing them, and assigning them to do hard labor. Sometimes practitioners cannot even get more than three hours of sleep. Practitioners have been forbidden to see their families, to wash, and to use the restroom. The labor camp guards have also placed unknown drugs in the practitioners' food and forced all inmates to watch video footage defaming Falun Dafa.

Mr. Luo Taiyou is retired from the Yunnan Steel Window Frame Factory. On February 12, 2009, he was followed by the police while distributing brochures in the Luoshiwan area. At 2:30 p.m. officers from the Macun Police Station took him into custody. The officers took him home, where they conducted a search.

At 2:00 a.m. on February 19, Li Bo and other officers in Qi County arrived at Luoyuan Village in Xigang Township. The officers lied to get the practitioners to open the door and said that they were there for a business deal. Their lies did not work. The officers broke in and took into custody Mr. Yue Guisheng and another practitioner with the given name Shengniu. The officers also confiscated a computer and a satellite dish.

On the afternoon of January 21, 2009, Ms. Cao Yunxiu, a widow in her sixties, who lives at the family quarters of the Fei County Industry and Commerce Department, was taken into custody by the Fei County 610 Office. She remains in custody at the Fei County Detention Center.

At around 11:00 a.m. on February 19, 2009, four police officers from the Domestic Security Division of the Minquan County Police Department arrived at Mr. Li Zhengju's home in Lilou Village, Shunhe Township, Minquan County. The officers looked around Mr. Li's home without identifying themselves.

About two years ago, in the spring of 2007 when Mr. Li's son was only 17 years old, he got sick and could not afford the medical expenses, so he started practicing Falun Gong. In December 2007, the child was taken into custody by officers from the Chengguan Town Police Station for keeping an MP4player with Falun Gong content under his pillow. He was unlawfully sentenced to one year of forced labor despite the fact that he was just about to take the college enrollment exam.

At around 4:00 p.m. on February 19, four officers from the Dongsheng Police Station in Haidian District went to the Laowudaokou Clothes Market on Xueyuan Road in Haidian District and took into custody Ms. Zhao Qiuying, who was working there. The officers then searched Ms. Zhao's home and confiscated a copy of Zhuan Falun and several brochures. Ms. Zhao has been transferred from the Dongsheng Police Station to the Qinghe Detention Center in Haidian District.

On February 18, Li Wei and other officers from the Yanjiao Development District Domestic Security Division in Sanhe City, Hebei Province, forcibly took into custody Mr. Zhang Lixin at the Yanjiao People's Hospital. The officers searched Mr. Zhang's home. They confiscated a VCD player and Falun Dafa books among other items. Mr. Zhang has been taken to the Sanhe Detention Center.

On January 16, Li Dabin and several other officers from the Zhanqian Police Station took Ms. Jiang Xiuzhen and her husband, Mr. Jia Shuangyou, from their home to the Shuangcheng City Detention Center. Ms. Jiang passed out in the detention center. On February 20, she was taken to Section No. 1 for Internal Medicine in the In-Patient Division of the county hospital in Shuangcheng City. When her family visited her, Ms. Jiang told them she had been throwing up blood for five or six days. She was in critical condition. She was not able to walk, but she still wore shackles.

At around noon on February 20, Mr. Li Wanpeng, 37, was taken into custody by officers from the Cuidong Police Station in Benxi City while he was giving out brochures. Mr. Li's whereabouts are unknown.

On the morning of February 20, officers from the Xinhua Police Station in Fuyu County arrived at Ms. Tong Yajuan's home. They took Ms. Tong and Ms. Hu Jiangrong into custody.

At around 2 p.m. on February 19, Fu Zilong, head of the Pingfang District Domestic Security Division, and other officers arrived at Mr. Wang Lixin's home. Police officers and plainclothes police officers besieged the building Mr. Wang lives in. After five hours of a stand-off, the police called firefighters and a 110 emergency response team in an attempt to break in through the windows. Mr. Wang jumped out from the third floor and managed to escape.

On the morning of February 12, officers from the Banchang Road Police Station and those from Tianjin Municipality searched Ms. Zhang Ping's home. Ms. Zhang's husband was taken to the police station and held there for the entire morning. Ms. Zhang's home has been placed under police surveillance around the clock. On the same day, officers from the Shengli Street Police Station also went to the home of a young practitioner with the surname Lu for harassment.

On February 17, six police officers harassed Mr. Wang Jinming at his home in Beiduozhuang Village in Duozhuang Town, Mengyin County. Mr. Wang was taken into custody. His whereabouts are unknown. At the same time, eight people went to Mr. Lu Xingrong's home in Xiduozhuang Village to harass him. Ma Yuliang, head of the Duzhuang Town 610 Office, and seven other officers harassed Mr. Liu Changrui at his home in the family quarters of the Food Administration Agency, Mr. Zhao Chuanwu and Ms. Pan Yongfeng at Sihouwa Village, Mr. Wang Xijiang at Sanqiangou Village, and Ms. Shi Zengchun in Yangjiazi Village.

Ms. Wang Guirong, who lives in Zhuge Town in Yishui County, had been held at the Yinan County Detention Center for some time. She has recently been transferred to a women's forced labor camp.

Ms. Zhao Xiuying, in her seventies, lives in the Lanshan District, Linyi City. She was turned in to the police and arrested for telling others the facts of the persecution. She has been unlawfully sentenced to prison after being held in the detention center for some time.

At around 6:30 a.m. on February 19, officers from the Cult Division of Weicheng Police Department and those from the Yuhe Town Police Station went to Ms. Chen Yuxia's home in San'anzi Village and Ms. Li Shufeng's home in Nanlun Village in Yuhe Town. The officers jumped over the wall and broke the locks. They ransacked the two practitioners' homes and took them to the Yuhe Town Police Station. The police extorted 2,000 yuan from Ms. Li's family and released her at 7:30 p.m. the same evening. Ms. Chen got out of police custody with righteous thoughts in mind by 8:00 p.m.

At 10:00 a.m. on February 20, 2009, officers from the Weifang City Police Department arrived at Yingbei Village. They took a practitioner with the surname Geng, who is over 50 years old, into custody. The officers also unlawfully searched the practitioner's home.
