As the Dean of the Conservatory of Music, Mr. Reuter immediately noticed, "It's an interesting mix of traditional Chinese sounds plus some slightly more 'tonal' music that I wasn't quite expecting ... I liked the traditional parts, I love all the pentatonic and the special scales--it's all very good!"

Mr. Reuter said he also appreciated many aspects of the performance. "It's very beautiful; I like the combination of the graphics and the dancing, plus the various types of music."

"I agree--and the choreography as well," nodded Mrs. Reuter, who is a vocalist. Mrs. Reuter added, "I like the Chinese interpretation as well, so there is both English and Chinese."

Mr. Reuter added, "I loved the flowing costumes, especially the ones that are meant to look like flowers."

Professional Ballerina: "I Haven't Seen Anything Like This Before"

Joining the appreciative audience at the Ohio Theatre was Ms. Reau, a professional ballet dancer who has performed for 25 years at the Ohio Theatre and now teaches ballet in Columbus.

"Oh, It's beautiful, really beautiful! I loved it. The costumes and the dancers were all so beautiful. The people, just beautiful faces, just beautiful."

As a professional dancer and teacher, Ms. Reau is very well aware of what it takes to produce a show of this high caliber. She explained, "They were synchronized, they were all together, and I know how hard that is to get a core of dancers to dance together all at the same time with everybody, you know, spacing correctly, so I can appreciate all the work that goes into that."

A lifetime devotee of dance at the professional level, Ms. Reau was acutely aware of the nuances of this art form, and she noticed everything. "Oh yes, they were very musical, they were right on, everything was great, I just really loved it!"

There were many dances that Ms. Reau particularly liked, "'Flowing Sleeves' for one. I thought that was really pretty. And I liked the ... I don't know the name of the dance [Dance of the Yi], the ones with the skirts, with the multicolored skirts, very bright, bold colors, I loved that. I love folk dancing. I haven't really seen anything like this before!"

Dance Director Stunned by the Beauty of DPA

Executive Director of Ballet Met Dance Academy in Columbus Ms. Mitchell was enchanted by the beauty of DPA. This was the first time she had seen a DPA performance, and she immediately exclaimed, "It was stunning, and very beautiful!"

She particularly liked the dances where the women are all in unison. She also said, "The tumbling parts were very exciting, and the men with the drums I really liked as well. The dancing, especially, I loved! The costuming was very spectacular, and the music was lovely and exciting, too! For me, it was just the beauty of it, the beauty of the music and the dances and the costuming coming all together."

Ms. Mitchell summed up her experience, saying, "It is graceful, it is physical, but it is very refined and technically very ... what's the word I am looking for ... precise. It was stunning and very beautiful!"
