(Clearwisdom.net) At 6:50 a.m. on December 13, 2007, Teng Yan, deputy head of Changhong Police Substation, Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province, along with two police officers broke into the home of Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Qiu Yuxia.

They arrested Ms. Qiu Yuxia, and took away her home computer, printer, CD writer, VCD player, 2000 yuan in cash, a bank deposit book and deposit receipts (amounting to 30,000 yuan), her ID card and salary deposit card. At around 10:00 a.m. that morning, Qiu Yuxia's daughter Ma Duo was arrested while at work at China Mobile Communication Company. At 3 o'clock that afternoon, both women were sent to the detention center.

This is what happened when their family tried to find them:

On the morning of December 18, 2007, Qiu Yuxia's family went to the Jiamusi Police Station. A female police officer received them. She told them to go to the work unit that had made the arrest, the Changhong Police Substation. When they arrived there, they were told to report to the main station, and had to go back again.

On December 29, the family was contacted and told to go to Changhong Police Substation. The detention center had performed a physical examination of Qiu Yuxia and found her blood pressure to be very high. They were worried that her condition would soon be critical, and so ordered the family to pay 20,000 yuan for her release. If they paid the full amount asked, she would supposedly be released at 3 p.m., and if they only paid 10,000 yuan, she would not be released until 6:00 p.m. No matter what, their whole purpose was to extort money for her release. Negotiations lasted all night, until midday the next day, when they finally accepted 1,000 yuan.

On January 4, 2008, the family again went to the Police Substation to ask for the property confiscated by the police. After a long argument the police finally returned some of the items including the deposit book, VCD player, ID card and salary card.

The next morning, Ma Duo's family went to the branch police station of the suburb to ask about her, and told them that she had been detained for over 20 days. They told the police that it is not wrong to be a good person and she should not be detained in jail. Director Wang told her family, "Go to the Procuratorate or find an attorney for her." One person at the station said she was arrested because she was "Falun Gong." On January 14, the family was told by an insider that the 610 Office planned to issue heavy sentences to all detained Falun Dafa practitioners. Ma Duo met the requirements and they were planning to arrest Qiu Yuxia again.

At 9:00 a.m. on January 21, 2008, a male relative of Ma Duo went to ask about her at the 610 Office of Jiamusi City Government. The office was locked and he had to wait outside for a hour. When an official by the name of Yin came, he asked for Liu Yan, the director of the 610 Office. He told the official that whenever he asked at the police station about Ma Duo, he was told to go to the 610 Office, because they were the ones who determined what happened to her. However, Yin insisted he didn't know anything about Ma Duo. According to him, when cases involved Falun Gong practitioners, the police station and Procuratorate directly handled things whether it was jail sentencing or sending them to a forced labor camp. The relative asked him: "What is your 610 Office in charge of then?" but Yin avoided the question.

Yin insisted that Ma Duo's relative leave. When Yin walked into a room with a sign "VP of Executing Law Committee," the relative saw several people talking inside. Seeing his chance, he asked for Liu Yan, and the meeting leader immediately said, "He's not here!" Actually, the person speaking was Liu Yan! Many people came out and nervously called him into another room. They secretly called the security guards, claiming Ma Duo's relative was "seriously interfering with work" and took him to the security department on the first floor. The guard said that in the city government, the words "Falun Gong" are very sensitive, and they were treated very seriously. Finally this guard contacted the 610 Office and said they would notify the family about Ma Duo after they reached a conclusion, and told him to wait at home.
