Ms. Wang Fengjuan, 39, lived in Yushu City, Jilin Province. She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in January 2000. She was arrested and detained at a local custody center for more than 80 days. The police extorted more than 2,000 yuan from her. The police forced all practitioners to stand outside in the freezing cold while they hit the practitioners with plastic tubes. After she returned from the custody center, her superiors refused to let her work. She lost her only source of income.

Ms. Wang was in a car accident in another city in October 2000. Her spine was fractured in three places and her pelvis was shattered. Less than two months after the accident, she was arrested and taken to the West Prison and held there for six months. She was later taken to the No. 4 Division at the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp and held there for one year.

Ms. Wang Fengjuan told the labor camp guards that she had injuries, but the camp doctor verbally abused her. She suffered tremendously at the labor camp and had difficulty getting out of bed after she was permitted to go home.
