(Clearwisdom.net) On April 18, 2006, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Union City, California, wrote a letter to President Bush, asking him to raise with Hu Jintao the issue of the harvesting of detained Falun Gong practitioners' organs in prisons, labor camps, and hospitals in China, and calling for a full investigation of these charges. They asked that the US government take action to call for the immediate stop of the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners and human rights violations. Below is the text of the letter.

Dear Mr. President:

It is alleged that over the past years, hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners have been illegally detained in prisons, labor camps, and hospitals for refusing to denounce their beliefs. Many have disappeared without a trace. Also, we believe there are allegations that there is a harvesting of the detained practitioners organs. If this is true, it would be in direct violation of international covenants we believe that the President of the United States has a responsibility to raise this issue and call for a full investigation of these charges when you meet with Hu Jintao during his scheduled visit in April.

Thus far, no one in the Chinese government has come forward to deny the veracity of the Falun Gong detentions and the alleged human rights violations.

It seems too horrible to believe that this could be happening in the world today but history shows that human rights violations do take place all over the world. The world media reported little of the Holocaust while it took place and it wasn't until the Allied forces liberated the concentration camps that everyone learned the horrifying truth of what took place within them. It was said that when good people remained silent, evil prevailed.

What was lost in the Holocaust cannot be recovered. But the costly lessons taught by the millions who perished should be cherished and not easily forgotten. We ask that the US government take action to call for the immediate stop of the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners and human rights violations.

Sincerely yours,

Mark Green
Mayor
