Five caravans passed through San Angelo Saturday morning in part of a rescue drive to bring Dr. Charles Li back to the United States from China.

He is being held at a detention center in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province for practicing Falun Gong, ''a practice of meditation and exercises with teachings based on the universal principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance,'' according to the press release from Falun Data Information Center.

The group began their campaign-seeking support across Texas to bring the Californian back to the United States.

Li went to China to visit his parents and was arrested at the Guangzhou Airport shortly after landing there Jan. 22. [...]
Li told a U.S. official that he believes Chinese officials are treating him like a political prisoner because he practices Falun Gong, the release said.
