Dear Mother and Father:

How are you!

It has been more than a year since we parted in 2000. At this very moment your son is writing to you from jail. History really played a big joke on me: After pursuing "Zhen-Shan-Ren (Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance)" and striving to be a good person, I ended up in jail! I always dream about going home. Often I wake up in tears. Thinking of your anguish after you learned I was in jail makes me very sad.

I know that you went through tremendous hardships to support me, to help me complete my high school studies, and later at the university my graduate and PhD programs. I remember at age 13, leaving to go to school dozens of miles away from home, and visiting only once a month. Every time I came home, Mother, you were both happy and worried. You were happy that I could come back to reunite with the whole family, but worried that you hadn't saved enough money for my next month's cost of living expenses. You went to borrow additional money from neighbors. All throughout my childhood, Mother, you saved every egg our hens laid to sell them in the market. You and Father lived a frugal life. Day in and day out, year in and year out, you, my parents, started to work at dawn, and only took a rest at dusk. You saved every hard-earned penny to support me at school. Now, Mother and Father you are over 60 years old, and yet you are still working in the fields. You are no longer strong; your hair has turned white, and your eyes have become dim. Mother, you suffer from chronic leg problems and have stomach problems as well. You often endure severe pain while working in the field. Yet, working so hard and suffering so much haven't brought much income for the family. In 1999, when the flood hit our village, you didn't earn one penny from the 2 mu (a Chinese land-measuring unit; 1 mu = .165 acres) watermelon field, but stood a loss of 200 Yuan. Villagers advised you to stop working, but you always said with a smile, "I'll stop working after my son graduates from his Ph D program." But Mother, you never expected that your son would be put in jail after he completed his Ph D program.

While writing this far, I feel so painful in my mind that I can't help shedding tears. How can I requite your love and care? I owe you so much...

I heard a touching story here: a college student went to Tiananmen Square to appeal for Falun Dafa and was arrested on October 2, 2000. Before making the journey, he made a phone call to his mother, and said, "Mom, I love you." He said it was the first time since he grew up that he said such words to his mother. After hearing this, tears welled up in my eyes. That is also true with me. "Mom, I love you!" Isn't that also my heartfelt wish?

Who says that we Dafa practitioners don't have love and honor? Who doesn't have parents? Who doesn't have relatives? Who doesn't have children? Who doesn't have other loved ones? As Dafa practitioners, we simply sacrifice all we have for the well being of all parents and children in the world. We safeguard the truth of the universe, and strive to be responsible to all beings in the universe.

Falun Dafa is righteous, but is absolutely not an [slanderous words omitted], as some people have said. If "Zhen-Shan-Ren" is not righteous and being a good person is not right, what then is righteous? When problems like the "self-immolation incident," and the so-called "committing suicide" occurred, people shouldn't have blamed Falun Gong, because Falun Gong explicitly opposes all this. Doing so would be the same as blaming a traffic accident on the rules, because you didn't follow traffic rules and regulations. How could you blame the accident on traffic regulations? Dafa practitioners' appeal does not signify that they "place themselves above the law." They safeguard their right of freedom of belief as endowed by the Constitution, rather than harbor some political motives. If the continuing repression against Dafa would not increasingly expose its evil nature, why would there be a need for Dafa practitioners to continuously appeal? Would they go to clarify the truth if it were not necessary? No. Actually, Dafa practitioners' going to appeal is completely selfless. The vicious forces fall upon good people, which has been a big waste of the country's human and material resources. Dafa practitioners have been ruthlessly deprived of their naturally given, fundamental human right to believe in "Zhen-Shan-Ren." They and their families suffer great pain. To the Chinese people as a whole, this vicious ban is a huge disaster for the whole nation, and is, without a doubt, the darkest page in the history of China's 5,000 years of civilization!

Some people advised me, in order to get out of prison, to write a "guarantee statement," renouncing my belief in Falun Dafa. I know they want to rescue me from the jail. Their motive is good, but Dafa practitioners can't do Fa-rectification in a falsified way. We cannot say something against our will. What we cultivate is "Zhen-Shan-Ren." History will validate the greatness of Dafa practitioners and the greatness of Falun Dafa!

The darkness is about to go, and the brightness is drawing close. Falun Dafa will clear away all dirt in the human world and greet the new era of the universe. Let's look forward to this day!

In the end, Mother and Father, I wish you good health, and I'll requite your love for me after I get out of the jail.

A poem written in jail

Regardless of the heavy shackles dragging under my feet

Regardless of how high you raise the whip

How can Dafa disciples lower their noble heads?

Only those who fear death implore for freedom

Terror, pain and beatings count for naught

Even death cannot make me yield.

Facing death I laugh out loud

Demons' dens quake amidst my laughter

The raging fire of justice will burn down the palace

The day when Fa rectifies the whole world will definitely come!

This poem was written in December 2000. For pursuing the truth of the universe I was put in prison. I feel no regret or complaint. The poem can express part of the voice of my heart. But Mother and Father, please clearly understand that we are not political and not making trouble. We don't want to take over power from anyone. We do all this to safeguard the truth of the universe "Zhen-Shan-Ren," and we do it on behalf of all beings. More than these feelings are hard to express in words.

Your son in jail

June 16, 2001

Note: This practitioner had gone on a one-month hunger strike and is still illegally detained. It is said that he is going to be sentenced to other jail terms. This letter was compiled by other practitioners in jail, according to his manuscript, and was smuggled out of jail with great difficulty.
