After 7 practitioners from the Shizhong District of Jining City got arrested for appealing in Beijing, not only had each of them been imposed a fine of 3,000 Yuan to 5,000 Yuan, but also had their work units been criticized in a circulated notice. The major officials of their work units were required to submit a letter of self-criticism to the Municipal and District commissions in charge of "Falun Gong" issues. Meanwhile, their work units were each imposed a fine of 10,000 Yuan.

Ms. Zhao Xin Is In Critical Conditions, The Assailants Can Not Be Unpunished

On the Evening of June 19, 2000, Zhao Xin (female, 32), a lecturer of Beijing Industry and Commerce University was illegally arrested by the Haidian Police Sub-station, when she practiced Falun Gong in Zizhuyuan Park. In the detention center, Ms. Zhao started to fast. Several days later, Ms. Zhao' parents received a "critically ill notice" about their daughter. The vertebra at the fourth, fifth and sixth joints of her neck were fractured, and she also had minor injuries to her head. Her left eye was bruised and swollen and she had problems breathing. She is fed intravenously and can breathe only with the aid of a respirator. She is currently in Haidian Hospital. The doctors said, "She is still in critical condition and is fighting for survival. If she survives, there may be irreparable damage to some parts of the body necessitating amputations and/or leaving her paralyzed. We will try our best, but it is all up to her luck."

[Shandong Province] Practitioners from Linyi Suffered Inhumane Mistreatments

Since this May, the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners in Linyi City and its surrounding counties has reached an extreme extent. Some work units even hired the local ruffians to persecute practitioners. They used the rubber clubs or electrical clubs to beat up practitioners, and lighters and cigarette butts to burn practitioners. They also forced the practitioners to humiliate the Teacher. They put the photocopies of Teacher' picture or the name of Teacher on the ground and forced the practitioners to step on it. The practitioners would be beaten up if they refused to do that. Some of them even used scorpions and snakes to bite practitioners. A few practitioners got seriously hurt from the biting. It was said that they would be rewarded 500 Yuan for successfully "transforming" each practitioner.
