My name is XXX, female, 47 years old. On the morning of May 27 (Saturday), 2000, I went to visit a friend. Upon arriving at her home, and even before starting a conversation, we heard a knock at the door. When we opened the door, four or five policemen barged in. They asked me why I was there. I answered, "XXX is my friend." As I am free today, I came to visit her.

The police asked me some prepared questions.

Police: Are you a practitioner of Falun Gong?
I: Yes.
Police: Who asked you to come here?
I: Nobody asked me. I just came to visit my friend.
Police: Follow me, then.
I: Where do you take me?
Police: Police station.

Then they took me to Beixinqiao police station. I asked them, "Which law does not allow people to visit friends and relatives? Who forbids Falun Dafa practitioners to visit friends? You broke into a resident's home to make an arrest. It is a violation of a citizen's right of personal freedom." The police did not argue with me, and only said that it was because I was a Falun Gong practitioner! This was the very reason for the police to arrest me. They completely violated the law.

At 8 PM, they contacted my local police station, and then took me to a basement. Early next morning, the local police station, turning a blind eye to the illegal arrest conducted by the Beixingqiao police station, sent me to the detention center of Chaoyang police substation.

After I was illegally detained, I went on a hunger strike for my right of freedom as a citizen and to express my protest against the polices violation of a Dafa practitioner's rights of personal freedom, as they illegally detained me just because I visited my friend.

On the afternoon of May 28, a female superintendent named Jiao interrogated me. She asked me if I had eaten anything. I said "no" and asked her why they detained me illegally. She said, "Don't ask me that. It's not my business. If you don't eat, we will force-feed you." The mention of force-feeding reminded me immediately of Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Mei Yulan, who died from being force-fed while in police custody. I immediately brought up to her this inhumane treatment by the police department. Afraid that this event of death may be spread, she jumped from the chair and yelled at me, "If you dare to mention it again, I will whip you!" And then she took a pair of handcuffs from a cupboard and handcuffed me with my hands behind my back, and shouted at me, "get out of here! I don't want to see you again!" Upon leaving the room, I smiled at her and said, "Thank you. Please don't be angry. It is not good for your health. Take a good rest!" I went back to the jail cell in handcuffs.

At around 10 AM on May 30, I was taken to a secluded empty house . A policeman took off my handcuffs, and then with two policemen at each side, holding my arms, was placed on a wooden board on the ground and tied up in the shape of a cross. They tried to give me injections. When the first injection attempt was made, the nurse couldn't get the needle into my arm and became very nervous. I heard her saying, " I can't get it in, what should I do?" An elder policeman said, "Never mind. Just do it harder" Hearing this policeman's irresponsible remarks, I pointed it out immediately, "It was because of your irresponsibility in ordering a prisoner who knew nothing about inserting tubes to force-feed Ms. Mei Yulan that resulted in her death."

On the afternoon of May 30, I was informed I could go home. The interrogator asked me to sign a release statement. I refused it, I had not committed any crime at all. The interrogator then said, "You have been wrongly arrested this time, I will rescind this case." I watched him write, "Rescind the case" on the release statement.

A Falun Dafa practitioner

June 5, 2000

Note: At around 2 pm of April 13, 2000, a Falun Dafa practitioner H from Beijing went to Tiananmen Square for sightseeing. While taking a rest , he was questioned by a plainclothes policeman under neon lights. He admitted that he was a Falun Dafa practitioner and then was detained in Dongcheng District Detention Center. As of May 12, he had been detained for 30 days. Resting at home on May 27, some fellow practitioners went to visit him. At 9:45 AM, the police from Beixingqiao police station suddenly broke into his house. Without finding any evidence, the police arrested 16 practitioners in the name of "an illegal gathering." Later, 11 of them were detained illegally in Dongcheng District Detention Center for 12 days, until June 7. They are: (their names are omitted.). Among them, the oldest is 67 years old, and the youngest is 42 years old. Another two practitioners were detained in Chaoyang District Detention Center for 4 days and 3 days, respectively. All of these practitioners are law-abiding citizens. They have done no harm to others. It is indeed incomprehensible that the police would behave so irresponsibly. Aren't the police using the power at hand to break the law they know clearly, and violate the freedom of the citizens? Everything done will be judged fairly. The public will make their own comments on this.
