Australia: Rallies in Canberra Call for Action to End CCP's Transnational Repression

Aug. 23, 2026 |   By Minghui correspondents in Australia

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners held rallies in front of Parliament House in Canberra, the capital of Australia, from August 17 to 19, 2026. They called on the Australian government to help stop the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) infiltration and transnational repression.

Representatives from Amnesty International and from Tibetan and Uyghur organizations participated in the rally on August 18. They urged the Australian government to take action to stop the transnational repression and human rights violations.

Malcolm Roberts, a federal senator for Australia’s One Nation party, addressed the rally that afternoon. He expressed his support for Falun Gong practitioners and thanked them for their efforts to expose the CCP’s infiltration, uphold Australia’s democratic values, and restore human dignity.

Senator Thanks Practitioners for Their Efforts

Senator Roberts condemned the CCP’s state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting and urged the CCP to stop the persecution of Falun Gong. He also called on Australian people to pay attention to the CCP’s infiltration and transnational repression.

“One Nation supports your position,” he said. “We support the openness of your approach. We support your causes and we support especially what many of you expose is the Chinese Communist Party’s infiltration in Australia. We can’t get many people to see that but we know it happens and I thank you for telling us. What I also want to do is thank you for what you’re doing for our country.”

He said that the CCP’s suppression of freedom of speech and other freedoms was its global agenda and that it is critical for Falun Gong practitioners to raise awareness of the issue.

“To be a true democracy, a powerful democracy, we need active democracy. And so we need citizens engaged and participating in the process. And what you’re doing here is drawing attention to some very, very important issues, and that’s active democracy. You’re putting the pressure on some of the politicians in here who want to ignore you. So thank you so much, not only for what you’re doing for your cause, but for what you’re doing for Australia through active democracy, because when we don’t have active democracy, it slides into passive democracy, which slides into apathy, which slides into control and tyranny.

“So thank you so much for what you’re doing and thank you so much for what you’re doing for humanity. This is not just about Australia. It’s about the whole world because the Chinese Communist Party is anti-human. Thank you so much for what you’re doing to restore humanity in our world.”

Calling on Members of Parliament to Take Action Against the CCP’s Infiltration

John Deller, spokesperson from the Australian Falun Dafa Association, addressed the rally. (Minghui.org)

Mr. John Deller said, “We’re joined here today by the Uyghur community and by the Tibetan community. Thank you everyone, for coming.

“The Communist Party of China seeks to bring everything and everyone under its control. Outside of China, it seeks to control not only Chinese diaspora groups like us all here today, but also all levels of government, educators, and businesses, and corporations.

“The CCP hates all people of faith, and it particularly hates Falun Gong practitioners. As you all know, Falun Gong teaches Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, the cultivation of one’s inner self. The cultivation of virtue and goodness embedded in your heart and mind that cannot be deceived or removed by force or coercion. This is what practitioners in China have stood up for with their lives. So many have been killed because they defend Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.”

He pointed out that the three-day rallies and activities were held to help parliamentarians learn about the CCP’s threat. “The CCP’s transnational repression in Australia poses a direct threat to our sovereignty and undermines the fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals and the nation.

“Today we are calling for our parliamentarians to hear us and to recognize that the CCP is not just harming our diaspora communities, it is harming all Australians, our values and our way of life.”

The CCP Infringes on Human Rights in Australia

Andrew Witheford, Strategic Campaigner with Amnesty International Australia, addressed the rally. (Minghui.org)

“As you know, China is one of the worst violators of human rights and has been doing it for decades. There are serious, serious problems in China,” Andrew said. “We know about Falun Gong, and we know about what’s happened to Hong Kong.

“In China, people who try to protect human rights, call for democracy, or even talk about corruption or criticise the government end up in jail or even worse. And religions as well. Falun Gong, the churches, Buddhism are all suppressed.

“The Tibetans and the Uyghurs, they’ve had a terribly bad time for decades and the situation is getting worse. Maybe we don’t read about it in the newspaper, but what is happening there is essentially the destruction of cultures, the deliberate systemic destruction of cultures by Beijing.

“It’s what’s scaring Amnesty and what should be scaring all of us, that the government in Beijing not only will violate the rights of hundreds of thousands, millions of its own people in China, but it thinks it can do it around the world. And this is what has us really worried.

“It essentially terrorizes, scares, and bullies communities in Australia to achieve its own objectives. And this is really, really disturbing.”

He condemned China’s Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress implemented on July 1 this year. “With this law, China is not pretending anymore.”

During an interview he also revealed that, in addition to using force and diplomats to illegally intimidate people in other countries, the CCP employs a more subtle and insidious tactic overseas. “It actually scares communities because these communities have contacts within China. Their families, their friends, their relatives still live in China.

“And so China uses its influence to divide these communities against each other and to undermine democratic freedoms in democratic countries. So what we’re worried about in particular is that China not only abuses human rights within its own borders, but it abuses human rights in other countries. It abuses the human rights of Australians, residents in Australia, and other citizens who live in this country.

“And it also uses democratic systems to undermine these communities. For example, it lodges anonymous complaints, it makes up false email addresses, and people suffer consequences. And it’s all an intentional campaign trying to undermine communities. It’s very, very concerning,” he said.

“So we feel that the first thing is that there needs to be more knowledge in the broader community. Not only the community of human rights supporters, but the broader Australian community about what is happening here, about the fact that a lot of our fellow Australians and people that live in this country are actually suffering from repression in this country. And more needs to be done about that. So the first stage is more awareness. And then we need to develop policies to address these issues.

“So we’re going to do a lot of work to try to get the government to address this issue because China isn’t just violating human rights in China, it’s violating human rights in Australia. And we need to do something about it now and we need to work together to do that,” he said.

Falun Gong Practitioners Raise Awareness

Yuan Hongbin, writer and former professor of law at Peking University, addressed the rally. (Minghui.org)

During the rally Mr. Yuan said that for 27 years Falun Gong practitioners told people about the CCP’s persecution, infiltration, and transnational repression. Their doing this also safeguards Australia’s national interest.

He said since the CCP took power, there are over 100 million unnatural deaths in China. “The CCP tyranny seeks to revive the evil ideology of communism through the global expansion of communist totalitarianism.

“Acting in the name of this tyranny, it aims to supplant the United States as the architect of international law and the established international order. In doing so, it seeks to realize the final ambition proclaimed in the concluding sentence of The Communist Manifesto: the Communist Party’s desire to claim ownership of the destiny of all humanity.

“The CCP tyranny harbors a consistent, fundamental strategic plot against Australia: to transform the country—through United Front infiltration—into a political, spiritual, and cultural colony of the CCP regime, and to turn Australia’s economy into a vassal of the CCP’s economic system.

“I call upon every Australian citizen and every Australian politician to consider this: if, through our dealings with the CCP and its tyranny, Australia loses its economic sovereignty and autonomy, upon what will we rely to safeguard our nation’s freedom and democracy?

“We gather here not merely to defend the freedom of belief of Falun Gong practitioners, nor solely to uphold the right to cultural survival of any specific ethnic group. The protests by Falun Gong practitioners against the CCP’s transnational repression also serve to safeguard the fundamental national interests of Australia.”
