(Minghui.org) Looking inward is a treasure Master Li has given Falun Dafa practitioners. True practitioners can experience its wonder and discernment, which help them identify their shortcomings and areas that need improvement. Here, I would like to share some of my insights. Please let me know if anything I said is inappropriate.
Once, a relative came to pick up my grandson. When she arrived, my grandson was receiving a nebulizer treatment (which delivers medication as a fine mist) for a cough, so we chatted in the living room until it was completed.
She said, “Recently, so many people have been getting sick, and the weather is so unusual. It’s June, yet there are still places where it is snowing.”
I replied, “I believe these things are caused by a lack of morality in people’s hearts. What happens in heaven corresponds to what happens on earth. People will do anything to satisfy their personal desires and achieve their selfish goals. The abnormal weather is a warning from heaven. We must do more good deeds and fewer evil. No matter what hardships you face or the circumstances, please remember ‘Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.’ You may be able to turn a bad situation into good fortune.”
Suddenly, my husband burst into the room, pointed his finger at my nose, and shouted, “What did you just say? If you say it again, I will….” He raised his fist, ready to hit me.
The relative quickly explained, “We were just chatting. Don’t get so upset.” I chimed in, “We weren’t talking about you. Why are you so angry?”
His anger flared, and he threw the plate of fruit to the ground. The sound scared my grandson, and he began to cry. The relative quickly helped dress the young boy and comforted me, saying, “Don’t be angry; I believe your husband didn’t mean it.”
“Thank you for your understanding. I’m sorry you had to witness that.”
“That’s fine. Every family has its share of squabbles. Well, we are off now.”
After they left, I sat cross-legged on the bed and looked inward. I saw my competitiveness in the question “why are you so angry?”—which stemmed from the provocative and domineering attitude rooted in the Communist Party culture. Also, I feared losing face in front of my relative. As a practitioner, I should view the situation from the perspective of cultivation. The influence of party culture needs to be removed, and I caused the karma created when he smashed things. The fear of losing face in front of a relative is an attachment I need to remove.
After sorting this out, my thoughts became clear, and my mind was at peace. I felt refreshed and composed.
After lunch, my husband started playing on his phone as if nothing had happened. Just as I expected, as long as we look inward, there’s no obstacle we can’t overcome, and we can maintain harmony in our personal energy field.
I realized that looking inward is the channel connecting our microcosm to the external macrocosm. Whenever we encounter trials, difficulties, or conflicts, if we promptly and unconditionally look inward, the Falun (law wheel) that Master placed within our bodies will immediately begin rotating clockwise. It will automatically absorb positive energy from various levels of the greater universe outside our bodies, instantly melt away and destroy human notions, attachments, desires, and all manner of complex notions, as well as elements of the CCP culture and every form of interference imposed by the old forces.
In the human realm, this manifests as the immediate disappearance of obstacles or disturbances, or as a sudden turn for the better. I feel that looking inward is like a switch: as long as we consistently look inward, we instantly flip this switch, connecting the Falun within our bodies to the Falun in the vast cosmos. This creates a resonance at the same frequency, causing energy from the vast cosmos to surge instantly into the spatial field of our own universe, thereby restraining or resolving everything in the surface dimension. This is the power of the Falun. Its might is boundless. This is the Great Law of the Universe, with boundless majesty and virtue. This is our great Master, who has immeasurable compassion.
One evening, I came home from Fa study around 11 p.m. I saw my husband opening the fridge, and assumed he was looking for food. He likes snacks, but he has diabetes, and shouldn’t eat between meals. I said, “What are you looking for? It’s the middle of the night; you can’t eat anything; otherwise your blood sugar will go haywire again.”
He was unhappy. “Nothing! A lot of the food has gone bad.”
“Which ones? It’s because you bought too much, and we cannot finish it all ...”
Before I could finish my sentence, I heard a smash. He had thrown a large bottle of sesame paste I had just bought onto the floor. Then he knocked over the coat rack, which landed on top of the sesame paste.
Oh my goodness, my head was about to explode, and my heart was pounding in my chest. I collapsed onto the couch, staring at the mess.
After a while, I began cleaning it up. I reflected on Master’s teachings. Gradually, my anger faded, my tears dried, and a smile returned to my face.
I looked inward, calmly seeking the reasons for what happened. My husband simply opened the fridge door, probably just taking a look, but I assumed he was looking for something to eat, and then I started nagging him. The old forces exploited the loophole, manipulating my husband into causing the entire scene. Thankfully, Master’s teachings came to mind just in time to prevent further damage. I am deeply grateful to Master for his constant, compassionate protection.
Watching my husband slam the door and rush away, I felt he was pitiful and frustrated. He has been tormented by diabetes complications for over 20 years, and he can’t see clearly, his hands and feet have lost dexterity, his blood pressure is elevated, and his kidney function is declining. It is hard enough for him to prolong his life using handfuls of medication. Yet he has always been used by the old forces to cause trouble for me. It is a lot for him to deal with.
Thinking of this, a sense of compassion welled up within me as a being who has not received the Fa, and he is so pitiful and miserable. I felt a greater responsibility for him. On the human level, I must treat him with great kindness and care, allowing him to see and feel the beauty of Dafa. From the perspective of cultivation, as a “stepping stone” on my path, I should thank him from the bottom of my heart.
Now, when I view him as a sentient being in my celestial realm, I find myself able to make sacrifices and assume responsibility for him, no longer bound or influenced by human attachments, let alone subject to any imposition by the old forces or any material constraints. My understanding and commitment to change are a manifestation of the immense power of Dafa. At the same time, they are the boundless grace of our compassionate and magnificent Master, appearing in the human world.
