(Minghui.org) I began practicing Falun Dafa in 1997. I would like to share a story from my cultivation journey. Words cannot fully express the beauty of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, nor can they convey my gratitude to Master Li.

Once Plagued by Illness, I Gazed into the Depths of Despair

During the first half of my senior year of high school, I experienced persistent pain in the left lower abdomen and diarrhea. Every morning, I would go to class, and every afternoon, I would go to the hospital for medication administered by IV. The injections and IVs didn’t stop the symptoms, so I sought other treatment. Finally, a traditional Chinese medicine doctor managed to stop the diarrhea. The doctor had warned me that if it wasn’t stopped soon, the villi in my intestines would be destroyed, and I would permanently experience nutrient deficiency and other problems.

During the latter half of the semester, I began experiencing pain in the lower right abdomen. Consequently, I continued my routine of attending classes in the morning and going to the hospital in the afternoon. My condition fluctuated, improving at times only to worsen again, and it would not heal completely. The doctor diagnosed it as appendicitis.

I had an appendectomy in May. Having been frail and sickly since childhood, I weighed only 107 pounds at the time of the operation. By the time the National College Entrance Examination arrived in July, I was still following the same regimen: taking exams in the morning and being treated in the afternoon.

While sitting in the examination hall, I broke out in a cold sweat that soaked through my handkerchiefs. Because of my poor health, I failed to gain admission. I spent a year studying for a retake, and it was not until the following year that I finally secured a spot at a university in southern China.

When I started college, I received IV drips for a few days. At the time, I had a chronic stomach condition. After eating, my stomach would feel heavy, and I couldn’t straighten my back. I also had severe insomnia and couldn’t sleep well. I had been taking a tonic for my brain and another for my kidneys since junior high.

I also suffered from severe rhinitis, hearing loss caused by streptomycin injections since childhood, as well as gynecological issues, arthritis, and other conditions. I practiced various forms of qigong, but my health didn’t improve.

Back then, I often wondered whether I would live long enough to graduate.

Dafa Reveals Its Miracles

I attended a gathering for students from my hometown. A senior student introduced me to Falun Dafa, saying that practicing it was good for my health and could help cure illnesses and improve physical fitness. As soon as I heard it was good for my health, I wanted to learn it.

The senior student told me to read Zhuan Falun and to ask the instructor if anything was unclear. I took it very seriously at the time; so I wrote down every question as I was reading. By the time I reached the fourth lecture, all the questions I had earlier had been answered. After I finished reading the book, the senior asked me if I wanted to learn the practice. I said, “Yes!” So he took me to the study group and the exercise site.

I went to the practice site to do the exercises. The next day, a lump appeared in my eye. I asked the instructor why it had formed there. The instructor said, “That’s a good sign; Master will look out for you.”

I developed a fever on the third day. Because we had to take cold showers every day in southern China, I asked the instructor, “I have a fever; is it okay to shower?” I kept wondering if a cold shower while I had a fever would make it worse. To my surprise, after the shower, my fever broke. I found it truly amazing.

After a month of practice, my glasses felt uncomfortable, so I went to an optician to get a new pair. At the time, my prescription was over 700 degrees [the units of measure used in China], and I figured it would probably reach 1,000 degrees by the time I graduated.

But testing showed that the prescription for each eye had dropped by 100 degrees, which really took me by surprise. By the second month of practicing, I felt my glasses weren’t right again, so I went back to the store to get new ones. The prescription in each eye had dropped another 100 degrees. I was overjoyed at the time and thought it was truly miraculous.

A fellow practitioner who began practicing at the same time as I did wore glasses with a 200-degree prescription. Not long after starting the practice, he no longer needed them.

I hadn’t been practicing Falun Dafa for very long when my long-standing insomnia went away, and I slept soundly through the night. Occasionally, if I had a dream, I would ask the instructor about it. Later, I heard from fellow practitioners that I was the one who asked the most questions in the study group. But I never sensed any impatience from the instructor; no matter what I asked, he always answered me with the utmost patience.

Before I began practicing, I suffered from severe motion sickness; on one occasion aboard a ship, I vomited so violently that I even brought up bile. After I started cultivating, however, the motion sickness vanished completely.

Once, while sleeping in a train sleeper car, my stomach suddenly churned violently, and I ended up vomiting a dark, murky substance all over the floor. Since that incident, the chronic stomach ailment I had suffered from for years was completely cured.

From then on, my stomach felt like a flexible rubber pouch: it no longer hurt when I was hungry, nor did it feel bloated when I was full. I stopped being a picky eater. I could eat anything, and everything tasted delicious. I even discerned the distinct flavors of different foods. It felt blissful.

Ever since I can remember, my mom has taken me for daily injections; once, she took me for penicillin and streptomycin injections for six months straight. Later, the doctor shook his head. “I cannot believe the provider keeps doing this. If this child receives any more streptomycin, she’ll go deaf.” Sure enough, my hearing became slightly impaired.

If people spoke softly, I couldn’t hear them clearly. After I began practicing Falun Dafa, my hearing improved, and the lymph node tuberculosis visible since childhood disappeared as well.

Since childhood, I had a terrible temper, was petty, tended to get hung up on trivial matters, and held grudges. On one occasion, I was so angry with my mother that I refused to speak to her for several months.

During my school years, whenever I got upset with a classmate, I would complain to my mother day after day, detailing how terrible this classmate was or how awful that one was, until I drove her crazy. She would tell me, “Try to focus more on other people’s strengths and less on their faults.”

However, after practicing Falun Dafa, I underwent a profound transformation. If I became upset with a classmate one day, my anger would dissipate by the next—I simply couldn’t hold a grudge. I felt incredibly lighthearted and joyful deep down.

I learned the true meaning of tolerance and rarely spoke ill of others. Whenever I heard my mother complain about someone, I would offer her the same advice: "Try to focus more on other people’s strengths and less on their faults.”

When I graduated from college, my classmates all said their college years had been completely meaningless. I found this strange, since I had been very happy during my time there.

After reading Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, I realized why my classmates felt that college was meaningless—a result of the “philosophy of struggle” the evil Communist Party instilled in them. As a result, their relationships were filled with conflict, suspicion, and jealousy, devoid of kindness.

However, after I began practicing Falun Dafa in college, I was surrounded by kindhearted cultivators every day. Each took joy in helping others, acted selflessly for others’ sake, and treated people with kindness. Only by living in such an environment can one feel true happiness—and all the more so for us, Dafa disciples who have come to understand the meaning of life. Therefore, the Communist Party’s saying, “struggling against heaven, earth, and man—the joy is endless,” is nothing but deceitful nonsense.

The Beauty of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance Is Indescribable

Dafa Awakened My Wisdom

When I first began reading the Fa, I sensed that behind every word Master spoke, there was layer upon layer of boundless meaning, even though I didn’t discern exactly what it was. After I started working, I noticed my thinking had grown deeper. I could converse with people of all ages and understand their perspectives.

My first job was in chemical engineering design at a state-owned enterprise. There were six people in the entire office; another young colleague and I were the new hires. Every morning when I arrived at the office, I would clean it up. Our supervisor was very pleased to see this and would tell everyone he’d hired a hardworking young woman.

As this was a state-owned enterprise, the workplace was rife with infighting and political maneuvering; the three other people in the office completely disregarded the supervisor's instructions, leaving him to handle the vast majority of the work.

After joining the team, we took on a significant share of that burden. My primary responsibility was design, starting with piping layouts that included everything from large- and small-diameter pipes to insulated lines and angled runs. It was so exhausting that, at night, I even counted pipes in my dreams.

One day, my boss said with a smile that when he first graduated from college, he spent six months before being able to design a single pipe. He had graduated from a prestigious university. I was surprised at the time—was it really that hard? After all, I started designing chemical process piping right after I graduated from college.

Later, a student with a master's degree completed an internship at our company. My supervisor assumed that she had advanced credentials, so he assigned her to design a heat exchanger, which proved quite challenging.

She failed to produce a design during her internship. The supervisor asked me to take over the assignment.

I worked on it for a long time but couldn’t figure it out, so I told my supervisor, “This isn’t within the scope of my undergraduate studies, so I can’t design it.”

My supervisor replied, “Does that mean you’re not going to work on it? Keep trying.”

In the end, I managed to design the heat exchanger. My supervisor smiled and said, “You’re the first person here to design a heat exchanger.” In reality, it was Dafa that gave me wisdom.

My Advisor Took a Keen Interest in My Thesis

My second job involved contract management at a chemical company. My first supervisor was the “sink-or-swim” type who paid me very little attention and offered me absolutely no guidance in my work. I spent my days doing nothing and achieved nothing professionally; before long, I was demoted from Project Assistant to Business Assistant.

At the time, I considered resigning. However, I then recalled the principle of “mutual generation and mutual inhibition” that Master had spoken of in the Fa. I realized that everything has two sides, a good side and a bad side. In this situation, the downside was that my supervisor ignored me, while the upside was that I had an abundance of free time.

Project management was a popular trend in the industry at the time. By chance, I enrolled in a project management program at one of China's top universities.

After completing that coursework, I continued my studies by pursuing a part-time master's degree. Our class had 100 students, many of whom were key employees at their companies and had families to support, facing the dual pressures of work and family life. In the end, only 10 of us earned our degrees, and I was one of them.

While I was working toward my degree, my academic advisor took a keen interest in my thesis and proposed translating it into English for presentation at an international project management conference—on the condition, however, that she be listed as the primary author. She said that while such a paper held little significance for those working in the corporate sector, it carried considerable weight for those in academia. After giving it some thought, I agreed.

I felt I could write my doctoral dissertation as well. It wasn’t that I considered myself particularly brilliant, but rather, that Master’s teachings are all-encompassing—they contain everything. As long as one assimilates to the Fa, one can achieve outstanding results in one’s field.

My Supervisor Finally Realized the Importance of My Work

After completing my part-time master’s degree, I returned to my workplace, where I had a new supervisor who said he was there to lead, not to do the work. He dumped all the tasks on me, keeping me busy every day. While others might see this as a burden, I gained valuable professional experience from it.

I meticulously organized a jumbled assortment of tasks and established a project-management-style database that brought order to our operations. The workflows ran like a well-oiled machine.

All the project manager had to do was hand the contract over to me, and every subsequent task—involving the Finance Department, clients, the Design Department, and suppliers—would proceed without a hitch. Yet, from my colleagues to my supervisors, everyone seemed to view this as nothing special.

When I went on maternity leave, a colleague at the company took over my duties. As a result, the company's projects department fell into complete disarray. The project manager, the finance department, suppliers, and various other parties all complained to management about the person who had replaced me. They even called me to ask when I would be able to return to work.

At this point, my superiors recognized the critical importance of my work. They also realized that adopting a database-driven project management approach—specifically focused on contract administration—would enable the head office to effectively oversee all projects across our three regional branches. At the time, my salary was modest. However, upon returning to work after maternity leave, my superiors immediately promoted me and gave me a raise.

When My Position Was Taken Away, I Let It Go

Eventually, the General Manager recognized the importance of my work—particularly after I implemented the database—and informed me that he intended to establish a dedicated department and appoint me as its manager. However, during a managers’ meeting, a manager from another department, who had also recognized the significance of this new unit, proposed that she manage it.

Later, she told me, “This position was originally meant for you, however, your current role as a senior manager is as far as you’ll go.” I felt upset for a while, but I quickly let it go. I must hold myself to the standards of a cultivator; cultivators know how to let go and do not place great importance on worldly gains and losses.

CEO and GM Want Me To Stay

Subsequently, the company promoted another individual to Deputy Department Manager. A year or two later, the female department manager resigned, and the department was assigned a new manager. Another year or two passed, and—due to family reasons—I submitted my resignation at the same time as the Deputy Department Manager.

The department manager told me, “If the deputy manager resigns, the CEO and general manager won’t call him in for a talk, but if you leave, they’ll definitely call you in.”

Both the CEO and the general manager spoke with me, trying to persuade me to stay, even suggesting I could work half-days if necessary. Because I had resigned for family reasons, I had to politely decline.

I understand why the company leadership valued me so highly. Over the past decade or so that I worked there, I was a reliable, hardworking, and down-to-earth employee who never complained or shirked responsibility.

I never competed with others for personal gain, nor did I leverage my position to gain personal advantage; my character and professional integrity were impeccable.

On one occasion, when the CEO wanted someone to take charge of the confidential files, he remarked that, after reviewing all the company’s employees, he concluded I was the most suitable candidate and the one he trusted most to manage such sensitive information.

This is similar to the example of the textile factory mentioned by Master in Zhuan Falun, where a few Falun Dafa practitioners had a significant impact on the factory's overall morale. This is a simple truth that businessmen understand, yet a national leader fails to grasp it and has brazenly launched a persecution against Falun Dafa, inflicting severe damage on this country and its people—an act of extreme wickedness and utter stupidity.

I remember that during that period, National Security police officers would frequently come to my workplace to look for me because I had filed a lawsuit against Jiang (who launched the persecution). The company’s HR manager, who understood the truth of the situation, intervened on my behalf, tipped me off, and protected me.

Dafa Changed My Fate

A few years ago, while I was out with my family distributing truth-clarification materials, I was arrested and taken to a detention center. In the cell, there was a woman who could read palms. I told her that my health had been restored after I began practicing Falun Dafa.

She looked at my hand and said, “Your destiny has indeed changed. Your life line is broken—according to your palm, you were originally destined to live only until around age 40. Yet your current physical condition is completely different from what your palm lines indicate.”

When a person cultivates in Dafa, they gain physical health, live longer, and elevate their moral character. Yet, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) seizes these good people and throws them in prison to be persecuted. It is obvious who is good and who is evil.

In fact, throughout the CCP’s persecution of Falun Dafa, people have come to clearly recognize the Party’s evil nature. Inside a detention center, an inmate assigned to oversee the cell once pointed at me and remarked, “Just one look at this person tells you she is someone who is at peace with the world and contends with no one. To arrest such a good person—the CCP really is utterly wicked.”

Kindhearted people must clearly recognize the evil nature of the wicked CCP, withdraw from its organizations, distance themselves from wickedness, and step forward to embrace a beautiful, blissful future guided by Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance.
