(Minghui.org) A 50-year-old woman in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, is facing indictment for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Ms. Li Yuyan was studying Falun Gong books with two other practitioners at her home at 11:30 a.m. on April 1, 2026, when someone knocked on the door. Thinking it was another practitioner who’d come to join them, she opened the door, only to have seven plainclothes officers barge in.
Without showing their IDs or search warrant, they handcuffed Ms. Li and her two guests and then began to search her home. Ms. Li urged them to stop, but one officer pointed at her and said, “You think this is it? We have more questions for you!”
After spending one hour ransacking Ms. Li’s home, the police loaded the Falun Gong books and other items confiscated from her home into the car and drove the three practitioners to the Chengdonghu Police Station.
While the other two practitioners were released later that night after being interrogated, Ms. Li was forced to have a physical exam and admitted to the Shenyang City First Detention Center, even after she was found to have high blood pressure.
On April 9, the police submitted Ms. Li’s case to the Xinmin City Procuratorate, which issued a formal arrest warrant for her on April 16.
Ms. Li’s family went to the police station and procuratorate to inquire about her case and demanded her release on bail. The receptionist denied their request and also refused to disclose the name of the prosecutor who was working on the case.
Life Transformed by Practicing Falun Gong
Ms. Li used to suffer severe pain in her legs and feet after her baby was born. Just two weeks after starting to practice Falun Gong, she completely recovered.
Falun Gong’s teachings also made her more bighearted. She let go of her hatred and resentment, and she was able to remain calm when treated unfairly. Her strained relationship with her husband improved significantly. They stopped fighting and no longer wanted to get a divorce. She also took good care of her in-laws and treated them like her own parents.
