(Minghui.org) While serving a four-year term at the Jilin Province Women’s Prison for practicing Falun Gong, Ms. Qi Lihua is suffering relentless torture for upholding her faith. This includes being forced to sit motionless on a small stool for hours on end, restricted restroom use, and exposure to freezing temperatures.
Details about Ms. Qi Lihua’s arrest and sentencing are unclear. Minghui.org has confirmed that she still has a little over a year left in her term.
When Ms. Qi was first admitted to the prison, she was assigned to Cell 107 at the Eighth Division, also known as the “Storm Cell.” Inmates Dai Yu and Qi Xin, both convicted of fraud, were assigned to be in charge. Dai and Qi have enthusiastically embraced their roles. Because of their active participation in the persecution, they have been rewarded every year.
Sitting on a Small Stool Motionless for 16+ Hours a Day

Forcing the practitioners to sit on a small stool for long hours without moving is a common torture method used in prisons and detention centers. It causes significant damage to one’s physical and mental health.
Ms. Qi was forced to sit on a small stool with an uneven surface with her hands on her knees, from 3:50 a.m. to 10 or 11 p.m. every day. Any slight movement would result in beatings and verbal abuse. After an extended period of daily torture, her cognitive functions declined significantly, leaving her in a dazed state.
Ms. Qi also developed large blisters on her buttocks. To make matters worse, inmate Qi constantly kicked the stool to increase the friction. Blisters formed and broke within a short period of time. When the blood dried on Ms. Qi's pants, taking them off was excruciating.

Ms. Qi showed her wounds to the warden, Jiang Wei. Instead of reprimanding the inmates, Jiang restrained her to a bed for eight days. She wasn’t allowed to get up, not even to use the restroom. The same torture was repeated at a later time.
Freezing Torture
As soon as Ms. Qi was taken to cell 107, the inmates took away her socks, shoe pads, warm jacket, and pants. During the winter, while she was wearing only one layer of clothing, the inmates opened the windows when it was extremely cold. While inmates Qi and Dai stayed warm under a comforter with a hot water bottle, Ms. Qi shivered in the cold. When she went to bed, she had to keep her arms outside the comforter. Some inmates were assigned to monitor her, and they would immediately pull her arms out of the comforter after she covered herself.
Sleep Deprivation
Inmates Qi and Dai forced Ms. Qi to accompany anyone who needed to use the restroom at night. She also had to stay up for over an hour of security duty. Severely sleep deprived, she struggled to maintain her balance while walking. Qi and Dai verbally abused her when they saw her doze off, even in the middle of the night. Then they would direct the inmates to condemn Ms. Qi for waking everyone up.
Ms. Qi was later transferred to cell 201, and the inmates there continued to torture her. She was forced to patrol the cells for six hours every night. Due to sleep deprivation, she collapsed one night and was found to have fractured her hip.
Because of the injury, she was taken to a local hospital for 20 days and then transferred back to the prison hospital. The prison doctor gave her injections every day, which caused her memory to decline further. She suspected that the drugs were toxic. As soon as she recovered, she was taken back to cell 201.
Limited Restroom Use and Washing
When Ms. Qi was in cell 107, inmates Qi and Dai restricted her from using the toilet, only allowing her to have a bowel movement every two weeks. They also refused to give her toilet paper and often dragged her out of the restroom before she was finished.
In addition, they didn’t allow her to wash herself or change her clothes, which caused her to smell bad.
Financial Extortion
Inmates Qi and Dai forced Ms. Qi to hand-copy something every day, using overpriced 4.5-yuan pen refills that she had to buy with her own money.
Long Term Harassment and Husband’s Passing
Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Qi has been repeatedly targeted for upholding her faith. She was forced to live away from home several times to hide from the police.
The police broke into Ms. Qi’s home at 9 p.m. on January 23, 2007 by breaking the window. They beat her and took her to the Shuangyang District Police Department. She was held at the Yuandong Street Lockup for 15 days and then taken to Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp to serve a one-year term. Outraged by the persecution, her husband's health declined, and he died one month later on February 26. He was only 42. Ms. Qi’s term was later extended by 31 days.
The police harassed Ms. Qi again ahead of the CCP’s 18th Congress in 2012. She was forced to go into hiding for three months. On her way back home on the evening of May 19, 2018, she was arrested by officers from the Qijia Town Police Station. They handcuffed her, restrained her in a metal chair, and interrogated her overnight.
