(Minghui.org) I read an article titled “Accurate Movements in the Dafa Exercises Are Essential,” which was published on Minghui.org on February 2, 2026. It is about an elderly practitioner and how Master had enlightened her when she was doing the exercises. Master reminded her that when she lowered her head and bent her back while doing the exercises, it messed up her mechanisms. When she did that, she fell into the old forces’ trap and took the path that the old forces had arranged for her. After she corrected her exercise movements, great changes happened to her physical state.
This reminded me of a matter that happened more than 20 years ago. Around 2001, when I was pursuing my graduate degree, I needed to have a new photo taken for my identification documents. I walked into a photo shop near the school entrance. The photographer was a soft-spoken woman. When I sat in front of the camera, she said to me, “Sit a bit straighter!” So I straightened my back. She then said, “Straighten a little bit more!” So I continued to straighten my back further. She then repeated the words a few times more. But I thought if I straightened my back any further, I would fall backward. Puzzled, I asked, “Straighten a little bit further?” She replied in a very certain tone, “Yes, straighten a little bit more!”
In that moment I realized that Master was enlightening me through the words of the photographer. When I was doing the fifth exercise, “Reinforcing Supernatural Powers,” I did not attain the requirement:
“Keep the waist and neck upright.” (Chapter II Illustrations and Explanations of the Exercise Movements, The Great Way of Spiritual Perfection)
I obtained the Fa in the autumn of 1998 after seeing the book Zhuan Falun in my parents’ home. I was already working away from home after graduating from university and often returned home to visit my mother on weekends and holidays. Someone had given my mother the book Zhuan Falun. My mother was, in the eyes of our fellow villagers, the quintessential virtuous wife and loving mother, and the person who gave her the book thought that she should take a look at this precious book.
That time I went home and walked straight into my mother’s room, opened a cabinet door, and was surprised to see a book placed there. The dark blue cover page of the book had a bright Law Wheel in the middle (at that time, I did not know that was an image of the Law Wheel and I had also never heard of Falun Gong). Near the top of the Law Wheel are the white words “Zhuan Falun.” I asked my mother about the book, and she said that a person named Zhangxiang (alias) who practiced Falun Gong had brought it to her.
I flipped open the book, read a few lines, and was immediately fascinated: “This is what I have been wanting to learn!” The more I read, the more I was amazed by the book. No words can describe my thoughts and feelings at that time. I decided to spend time reading the book carefully, so I took a few days off, and slowly (I was afraid that if I read it too fast, I may miss something) read through the book once, in great detail, not daring to miss even a single word.
The principles mentioned in the book became deeply rooted in my heart. I did not dare to be the slightest bit careless regarding cultivating xinxing. By comparison, I did not put that much effort into doing the Falun Gong exercises.
I rarely joined group exercise sessions, nor did I listen to the exercise music a lot. During that period of time, I did not have my own recording of the exercise music so when I was doing the exercises alone, I just did them by myself without music.
After July 20, 1999, due to the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution of Falun Gong, we no longer had an environment to do the exercises together in groups. I also didn’t know any local practitioners. So my movements were not accurate when I did the exercises, but no one could see and correct them for me. And I was slow to realize it, too.
I usually walk very fast, with long strides, and I usually lean forward habitually. When I sit down, I also seldom sit with my back straight. If I were to sit up straight, I would either feel tired or it would feel uncomfortable. Thus, when I did the fifth exercise, I also did not sit up straight but I did not realize it for a long time. I have truly caused Master a lot of worry. In recent years, every time I saw scenes of the performers with Shen Yun Performing Arts doing the exercises in a group on NTD, I would exclaim in my mind, “These young practitioners are sitting really straight!”
Under Master’s constant protection, I have experienced so many moving and amazing things on my path of cultivation in Falun Dafa. When I decided to write this article, I revisited some of Master’s lectures about doing the exercise movements accurately, and I copied some parts down:
“It’s necessary to do the movements correctly when you first start to do the exercises, or the mechanisms will become distorted.” (Chapter III Mechanics and Principles of the Exercise Movements, The Great Way of Spiritual Perfection)
“The Great Law exercise practice is one in which the mechanisms drive the refinement. So if the movements are a little bit off, it won’t have a negative effect. But be sure to do them as accurately as possible. The movements should still be done according to a standard.” (Teachings at the Conference in Houston)
“Yet practicing the exercises is fundamental. Preventing the things you produce through spiritual practice in this discipline from becoming deformed is directly related to this set of things and to your exercise movements.” (Lecture Given at the Conference in Sydney)
“When something that’s not right is detected it has to be corrected. Otherwise, if you get used to it the mechanisms will get distorted, so it has to be corrected.” (Teaching at the Conference in New Zealand)
