(Minghui.org) Practitioners in Queensland participated in a Chinese New Year celebration in Brisbane on February 20 and 21 and introduced Falun Dafa. Government officials and local Vietnamese residents participated in the event at Freedom Place in Inala, in suburban Brisbane.
Through exercise demonstrations and posters at the Falun Dafa booth, practitioners illustrated how the practice improves mind and body. When talking with passersby, they shared personal experiences of applying the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in daily life and the resulting positive outcomes. Impressed by inner peace brought by the practice, many attendees praised the Falun Dafa teachings for their contribution to the moral foundation of our society.
Practitioners introduced Falun Dafa on February 20 and 21 in Brisbane, Australia.
Most of the Vietnamese attendees dressed in traditional costumes and gave Vietnamese cultural performances. They loved the practitioners’ dragon dance, Li Ethnic Dance, and chopsticks dance, and said these performances added joy and festivity to the event.
Young practitioners did the dragon dance, Li Ethnic Dance, and the chopsticks dance.
Cherishing Freedom and Staying Away from Communism
Physician Kim Dzung Nguyen, one of the organizers, thanked the practitioners for their beautiful performances. She said that in a free society, exchange among different cultures allows people to learn from each other and live better lives.
Nguyen emphasized the importance of Falun Dafa’s principles, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, for society. She said that many residents watched Shen Yun and liked the authentic traditional Chinese culture very much.
Nguyen and senior social worker Ngoc An Le also presented a book titled: 1975-2025 The Vietnamese Community in Australia Queensland Chapter—Fifty Years of Integration and Advocating for a Free and Democratic Vietnam. They were fulfilling a wish of Dr. Cuong Bui, president of the Vietnamese Community in Australia Queensland Chapter and a recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).
The book commemorates the 50th anniversary of the arrival of Vietnamese refugees seeking asylum in Queensland, Australia on April 30, 1975, after they fled communism. As one of the editors, Le said the book chronicled a significant historical journey for the community—from the trauma of losing their homes to overcoming numerous challenges through unwavering effort.
“For us, this book is not merely a commemorative publication, but a precious vessel of collective memory. It aims to help future generations understand the reasons why Vietnamese people were forced to leave their homes, and the hardships they endured as refugees, and why fundamental values such as freedom, dignity, and human rights must be cherished and protected forever,” he explained.
Photos and information about Falun Dafa are available in the book.
The book also included numerous photos and information about Falun Dafa. Nguyen and Le said including this information shows the Vietnamese community’s support for Falun Dafa, which shares the same beliefs and similar experiences. Falun Dafa is suppressed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) while Vietnamese immigrants were also persecuted under communism. After they fled Vietnam and came to the free land of Australia, which has stability, freedom, and respect, they naturally supported Falun Dafa.
“We included photos and information about Falun Dafa to more comprehensively depict the community’s life,” Le continued. “We believe that including content about Falun Dafa reminds people of the important lessons of history: freedom is not innate, freedom must be fought for, and human rights must be safeguarded at all times.”
Le also agrees with Falun Dafa’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He said he believes these values are the cornerstones of every society, and if more people practice them, society will become more positive. There will be fewer conflicts, more understanding, and a better future.
Both Nguyen and Le said the CCP’s forced organ harvesting that targets Falun Dafa practitioners is an extremely serious crime. The CCP sends spies and agents to infiltrate Western countries like Australia. Such transnational repression is illegal. Le Yu’an said, “The CCP’s human rights record is widely criticized, and international society has raised serious concerns. But we must be clear: criticizing the CCP is not criticizing the Chinese people. We respect all kind-hearted Chinese people and their culture. Our concern lies with those accused of human rights violations and policies.” Nguyen and Le wished practitioners well, and said they hope the persecution in China soon ends.
What Our Society Needs
Social worker Nguyen Tu Huong Mai
Nguyen Tu Huong Mai, a social worker, heard about Falun Dafa 10 years ago and said she knew the practice could improve one’s health. She said she was glad to hear that Falun Dafa and its principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is practiced in over 100 countries. “This is great. The more people that practice Falun Dafa, the better,” she said.
She’s also heard about the CCP’s brutalities, including forced organ harvesting from Falun Dafa practitioners. “It is vicious and should stop,” she said.
Nathan Goff said Falun Dafa helps practitioners and benefits society.
