(Minghui.org) A 73-year-old woman in Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, was given a fourth prison term because she practices Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.
Ms. Xia Yilin was arrested on March 19, 2025, for publicly nullifying the statements she was forced to make while she was previously detained to renounce Falun Gong. Her case was submitted to the Yingze District Procuratorate in June that year. Her family confirmed recently that the Yingze District Court sentenced her to three and a half years at an unknown time. She is now serving time at the Shanxi Province Women’s Prison (located in Yuci District, Jinzhong City). Details about her trial and sentencing aren’t clear.
This is not the first time that Ms. Xia has been targeted for her faith, which she credits for helping her to recover from stomach cancer and giving her life back. She previously served three prison terms totaling 11.5 years (October 2000 – October 2003; September 2015 – September 2019; and June 2020 – December 2024). Her latest arrest came merely months after she completed her third prison term on December 22, 2024.
Details of Latest Arrest
An officer from the Yingze Police Station went to Ms. Xia’s home on March 19, 2025, and deceived her into going with him to the police station. She was taken into custody as soon as she arrived.
The police revealed that they saw the solemn declaration that Ms. Xia published on Minghui.org to nullify the statements she made under pressure during her previous detentions to renounce Falun Gong. They demanded to know who helped her submit her declaration to Minghui.org online. She refused to answer and was transferred to the Taiyuan City Fourth Detention Center around 7 p.m. the next day.
The detention center allowed Ms. Xia, a widow, to call her daughter, who lives outside of China. She said that she was found to have elevated blood pressure during the required physical examination, yet the police still had her admitted to the detention center.
Ms. Xia’s daughter called for her immediate release, only to see her mother was given a fourth prison term for practicing her faith.
