78-Year-Old Woman Secretly Sentenced to 3.5 Years for Her Faith

Feb. 3, 2026 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Inner Mongolia, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Tian Shuying, 78, was summoned to the local police station in early January 2026, only to be told that she had been sentenced to three years for practicing Falun Gong. She is still in custody and her family have not been told anything regarding her prosecution or where she is detained.

Ms. Tian, of Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, was reported by a neighbor for passing out Falun Gong informational materials in her apartment building in early July 2025. A group of police officers soon raided her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books, photo of Falun Gong’s founder, and her cell phone, as prosecution evidence against her. They also put her on bail, but didn’t provide any formal documentation.

It’s unclear whether a court hearing took place before Ms. Tian was sentenced.

This isn’t the first time that Ms. Tian has been targeted for her faith. She and her husband, Mr. Chen Jingyu, were arrested on July 16, 2014, after being reported for distributing Falun Gong materials in the countryside. They were held at the Ningcheng County Detention Center and later sentenced to three and a half years each. Ms. Tian served time at a prison in Hohhot City and Mr. Chen was sent to the Chifeng City Prison.
