Czech Republic: Practitioners Hold Candlelight Vigil to Call for an End to the Persecution

July 28, 2025 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in the Czech Republic

(Minghui.org) Practitioners in Prague held a series of events on July 17–18, 2025, to peacefully protest the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) 26-year-long persecution of Falun Dafa. Politicians, members of parliament, senators, and public figures sent letters of support for the activities.

Candlelight Vigil

On the evening of July 17, practitioners gathered in front of the Memorial to the Victims of Communism in Prague to hold a candlelight vigil. They mourned fellow practitioners in China who have died over the past 26 years for their faith and for practicing the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance.

On Victims of Communism Street, they also set up an information table. Many passersby stopped to learn about the persecution and signed the petition calling for an end to the CCP’s brutal suppression and state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting of prisoners of conscience.

Several politicians, members of parliament, senators, and public figures sent letters of support. The organizers read these messages aloud at the event.

“The Persecution Is Completely Unacceptable”

Klára Laurenčíková, the Czech government’s Commissioner for Human Rights, wrote in her letter of support:

“Today marks exactly 26 years since the start of the brutal persecution against people who follow the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. In the modern world, this is one of the harshest and most systematic crackdowns on a spiritual group. Not only have the practitioners been targeted, but also their families and those who have dared to speak up for them.

“On this important day, please allow me, though far away, to express my deep support and respect for you. It is unacceptable that people are being persecuted simply for seeking spiritual growth and living by universal values.

“Today’s gathering is not only an act of solidarity with the victims of communist totalitarianism, but also a reminder that we must never stay silent in the face of injustice. Freedom of belief and conscience are basic human rights that no regime has the right to violate.”

Ms. Laurenčíková expressed special thanks to the practitioners for their courage and perseverance in the face of injustice.

Public Condemns the Persecution

A man said he watched a documentary about the CCP’s forced organ harvesting on a major Czech TV channel. He and his son signed the petition to oppose the persecution.

A young man from Japan and his friend also signed the petition. He told practitioners that he felt a strong and peaceful positive energy at the event site.

A group of young people also stopped to learn more. One of them said he attended a Shen Yun performance earlier this year and was deeply moved. He became very excited when he recognized one of the practitioners as the host of the Prague show.

He said that after watching the Shen Yun performance, he went online to learn more about Falun Dafa but felt confused by some of the negative information he found.

The practitioner explained that not all online content is accurate, nor does it tell the true story about Falun Dafa. The young man was very happy to hear this and had his photo taken with the host. Later, he returned with more friends to sign the petition calling for an end to the persecution. He also said they’re all looking forward to seeing Shen Yun again next year.

Rally at Wenceslas Square

On Saturday, July 18, practitioners held a peaceful rally at Wenceslas Square, one of the busiest areas of Prague. As part of the event, practitioners did a reenactment of the CCP’s torture methods and forced organ harvesting that Falun Dafa practitioners in China face. This helped the public understand the brutal persecution that has gone on for 26 years.

The gathering also featured paintings from the Art of Zhen-Shan-Ren International Exhibition.

Many passersby stopped to watch the torture reenactments and the exercise demonstrations. They were dismayed to learn that such peaceful people have been persecuted so harshly.

Leoš Strand, a representative of the Czech Falun Dafa Association, addressed the event, and called on the CCP to immediately end the persecution.

One man said he was deeply moved by the artworks on display. He recorded them on his phone and said he planned to share them on social media to help pass on the message to more people. He wished practitioners success in their efforts to end the persecution.

That weekend, an international folk festival was also taking place in Prague. A man from the UK who was attending the festival came over to learn about Falun Dafa. After hearing about the persecution, he expressed deep sympathy and thanked the practitioners for sharing the information.

Many people read the display boards to learn about the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in China, and signed the petition calling to stop the persecution.
