Once Jailed for 4 Years, 63-Year-Old Hebei Woman Detained Again for Practicing Falun Gong

April 15, 2025 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Li Yanping, 63, from Leting County, Tangshan City, Hebei Province, was arrested in March 2025 after being reported for distributing materials that exposed the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong.

Officers from the Zhongbao Township Police Station raided Ms. Li’s home and took her to the Tangshan City First Detention Center, where she remains. Her lawyer visited her but the details of the meeting were unclear.

Ms. Li took up Falun Gong in 1998 and recovered from a severe slipped disc in just a few months. She held firm to her faith after the communist regime launched a nationwide campaign against Falun Gong in July 1999. She was repeatedly arrested prior to this latest persecution episode. She was once paraded through the street and given an unknown term of forced labor in 2004. The Kaiping Labor Camp refused to admit her and she was taken to a brainwashing center instead. After she was arrested in 2010, she was sentenced to four years in prison.

Ms. Li’s husband, an active service member, feared being implicated and divorced her in a military court. Their son chose to live with her but lived in fear because his mother was repeatedly arrested. He is now calling for Ms. Li’s release.
