(Minghui.org) Wang Shanguo, in his 50s and a native of Chuzhou City, Anhui Province, has been the deputy director of the Office for Preventing and Handling Anti-Cult Issues in Bengbu City, Anhui Province, since 2015. When the Bengbu City Anti-Cult Association was established on August 31, 2020, he was appointed president.
Wang is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee of Bengbu City, second-level researcher, national expert on the Education and Transformation of Anti-Cult Personnel, and a member of the National Anti-Cult Expert Database. Whatever his position and titles, his main responsibility is to slander Falun Gong at different events.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since July 1999.
Wang focuses on spreading slander about Falun Gong on college campuses, where he has established the “Bengbu Anti-Cult Theory Research Base” and the “Bengbu Higher Education Anti-Cult Alliance.” Many anti-Falun Gong events are held in September every year when freshmen start their first semesters.
In September 2024, the Bengbu City Political and Legal Affairs Committee and the Bengbu City Anti-Cult Association organized more than 80 events attended by more than 80,000 students and school personnel on several different campuses.
Below is a list of anti-cult activities that slandered Falun Gong that Wang was involved in:
On December 25, 2024, the Bengbu Municipal Political and Legal Affairs Committee and Public Security Bureau organized the “Bengbu Higher Education Anti-Cult Alliance” conference at Bengbu University.
During the conference, school staff gave an overview of the school’s “experience” in promoting “anti-cult” to college students. Personnel from the Bengbu City Political and Legal Affairs Committee and the Bengbu City Anti-Cult Association also observed an “anti-cult” themed class and other political science courses and activities.
Zhang Tingting, a counselor in the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, organized skits, short videos, and case studies. Li Sai, a teacher in the School of Marxism, gave a class on “a devout Marxist’s view of religion.” The university also featured a great many bulletin boards plastered with “anti-cult” information.
On September 13, 2023, the Bengbu Municipal Political and Legal Affairs Committee and Bengbu City Anti-Cult Association held an opening ceremony at Anhui University of Finance and Economics, urging the students to be “anti-cults.”
During the ceremony, the “Bengbu Anti-Cult Theory Research Base” said it mainly conducts anti-cult theoretical research and provides theoretical basis for anti-cult activities in Bengbu City. The faculty members and students read the “Advocate Science, Oppose Cults” initiative, watched anti-cult videos, and signed the “Say No to Cult Religion” signature wall.
More than 300 faculty and students attended the activity.
On September 19, 2024, the Political and Affairs Legal Committee of Bengbu City gathered more than 3,500 freshmen in military fatigues from five universities, including Anhui University of Finance and Economics, to hold an opening ceremony for the anti-cult campaign at Bengbu University. The Bengbu City Political and Legal Affairs Committee gave 13 student representatives brochures on “anti-cult knowledge.” A student representative read out aloud a call to resist cults and to build a safe campus. All the students raised their fists to pledge allegiance to the Communist Party and took part in a signature drive to “promote science and resist cults.”
On September 7, 2024, Wang went to Bengbu Medical College and gave a talk on preventing cults. All 2024 freshmen were forced to attend. Rong Meisheng, director of the school security department, hosted the event.
Hu Youcai, deputy head of the Anti-Cult Brigade of the Bengbu City Police Department, went to Bengbu University on October 11, 2023, and gave a speech to the class of of 2023 about resisting the infiltration of “overseas anti-China forces” and to be resolute about opposing cult activities.
Wang went to Bengbu University again on April 2, 2023, and gave a talk to students in the college of arts and sciences. Wang Longjian, Party secretary of the college, hosted the event. All faculty and students were required to attend.
On September 21, 2022, Wang went to Bengbu Vocational College of Economics and Technology and exhorted the students to be “anti-cult.” All the counselors and student representatives attended. He played the slanderous videos produced by the Anhui Province Cult Association and organized the faculty and students to sign the “Reject Cults” document.
Zhang Rongbo, deputy secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee of Guzhen County Party Committee; Ding Hangang, director of the Stability Maintenance Office of the Political and Legal Committee; Wang Na, member of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee; Zhu Jun, captain of the County Public Security Bureau; Li Danyang, member of the Xinmaqiao Town Political and Legal Affairs Committee; Cao Xinle, the instructor of Xinmaqiao Police Station; and Zhou Guangping, the dean of the college, attended the talk, which was hosted by Yang Xiaoxiao, vice dean of the college.
On September 16, 2022, Wang went to the Bengbu New Town Experimental School Lingang Campus to speak on being against cults. He also put up a display board in the school and forced all the students to watch slanderous videos produced by the Anhui Province Cult Association. He encouraged students to report Falun Gong materials and Falun Gong practitioners if they see them. The event was hosted by Zhu Song, director of the Political and Educational Department.
Wang went to Tongling University on September 7, 2022, when the university organized an anti-cult lecture. About 500 staffers from the school’s security management office, Youth League Committee, propaganda department, head of second-year students, full-time counselors, and secretaries of the Youth League attended the talk.
On the morning of September 17, 2019, Bengbu University freshmen were made to attend an anti-cult event hosted by Chen Zhong, deputy director of the armed forces department in Bengbu City. Wang spoke at the event, warning the students not to promote “cults” on campus.
