(Minghui.org) Minghui.org recently confirmed that a 75-year-old Changchun City, Jilin Province, woman has been sentenced to 15 months for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Hong Ying was arrested at home on May 6, 2024, by three officers from the Jinqianbao Police Station. The police raided her home and confiscated her Falun Gong materials. They targeted her after getting a tip that she talked to people while buying groceries.
Ms. Hong was one of the nearly 50 Falun Gong practitioners in Changchun who were arrested between mid-April and mid-May 2024. The mass arrests were orchestrated by the Jilin Province Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC) and its subordinate Changchun City PLAC and 610 Office. The PLAC and 610 Office are both extrajudicial agencies tasked with overseeing the persecution of Falun Gong. Most of the arrests were carried out by the Erdao District Police Department and its subordinate police stations.
Despite the fact that Ms. Hong failed the physical examination required for detention three times, the police still forced the Changchun City Detention Center to accept her. Her family and lawyer were denied visits with her.
Ms. Hong was later indicted by the Chaoyang District Procuratorate and sentenced by the Chaoyang District Court. She has been admitted to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison in Changchun to serve the 15-month term. Details about her trial and sentencing aren’t clear.
