An 84-year-old resident of Taibus Banner, Xilin Gol League, Inner Mongolia, died on December 20, 2023, days after being harassed for her faith in Falun Gong.
Ms. Liu Runxian took up Falun Gong in early 1999 and soon recovered from her numerous diseases, including anemia, low blood pressure, arthritis, Meniere’s syndrome, heart disease, insomnia, and gastritis. After the persecution began in July that year, she held firm to her faith and was repeatedly targeted.
She was arrested on January 1, 2005, by guards of the Hohhot Women’s Labor Camp. She went there that day to deliver winter clothes to her daughter-in-law, who was being detained for practicing Falun Gong. The six relatives who went with her were also arrested and body searched. Ms. Liu had about 500 yuan cash snatched from her and her relatives also got several thousand yuan confiscated.
Ms. Liu was next taken to the Xilin Gol League Detention Center, which is more than 300 miles away.
With his wife, son, and daughter-in-law all in custody for practicing Falun Gong, Ms. Liu’s husband’s world collapsed. He died in March 2006.
After Ms. Liu was released, she still faced constant harassment from the police. Two officers intimidated her at home again only days before her passing on December 20, 2023. After she died, the police still harassed her family.
