Previously Incarcerated for Over a Decade, 79-Year-Old Guizhou Woman Jailed Again for Her Faith in Falun Gong

Dec. 29, 2025 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Guizhou Province, China

(Minghui.org) A 79-year-old woman in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, was admitted to prison in September 2025 to serve a one-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Wang Tianyin (also known as Wang Tianyun), a retired worker of Baiyun District Aluminum Factory, was arrested in February 2024. The Nanming District Court sentenced her to one year in January 2025, but allowed her to serve time at home due to health reasons.

In September 2025, Ms. Wang was taken back into custody, and the eight months she had served outside of prison were ruled to no longer count. She now must serve a full year in prison.

This is not the first time that Ms. Wang has been targeted for her faith, which she took up in 1993 and credits for improving her mind and body. She served three years and three months of forced labor from 2002 to 2005 and was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2012.

Three Years and Three Months of Forced Labor

Ms. Wang was arrested one night in the spring of 2000 by agents from the Guiyang City 610 Office and the Baiyun District Police Department. They took her to a secret location and interrogated her there for almost two full days. She was restrained in a metal chair the whole time. She did not answer any of their questions and was released.

For talking to her coworkers about Falun Gong, Ms. Wang was arrested again on March 10, 2002, and given three years of forced labor twelve days later.

Upon admission to the Guizhou Province Women’s Labor Camp, Ms. Wang was put in the new-admits team (also known as the strict management team). Captain Gu Xingying arranged four-person teams to take turns monitoring Ms. Wang. They did not allow her to sit, drink water, use the restroom, or sleep. She held firm to her faith, and they forced her to stand facing a wall from 5:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. Once she refuted an inmate, the inmate stuffed her mouth with a towel used to clean her lower body. The inmate also slammed her head against the wall repeatedly.

In October 2003, the labor camp extended Ms. Wang’s term by three months because she refused to write statements to renounce Falun Gong or do hard labor. The guards also held her in solitary confinement for 15 days. After that, they put her in a dark, damp, dirty, messy, and moldy storage room.

Ms. Wang was reassigned to another team on March 15, 2004. Captain Yang Qionghua ordered her to do hard labor. She said she would not, so Yang instructed four inmates to beat her. The buttons on her clothes were ripped off during the beatings, and she sustained injuries all over her body.

Ms. Wang was released on June 23, 2005.

Sentenced to 9 Years in 2012

Ms. Wang was arrested at her daughter’s home on April 12, 2012, and taken to the Baiyun District Court. She vomited blood and had hypertension and heart disease symptoms. On April 16 that year, she was taken to the police hospital.

The Baiyun District Court sentenced Ms. Wang to nine years in October 2012, and she was admitted to the Guizhou Province Women’s Prison on November 19 that year.

The prison guards arranged several inmates to monitor Ms. Wang around the clock. They forced her to read, listen to, and watch materials smearing Falun Gong. She held firm to her faith and was subjected to various forms of abuse. Other practitioners jailed there were also tortured. They were put in solitary confinement, given shots of toxic drugs, shocked with electric batons, deprived of sleep, force-fed, had restricted restroom use, and denied family visits.

Ms. Wang was released ahead of time on August 12, 2019.
