76-Year-Old Shandong Man Sentenced to 1.5 Years for Practicing Falun Gong

Oct. 4, 2025 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) A 76-year-old man in Yantai City, Shandong Province, is serving a 1.5-year term at the Jinan Prison for his faith in Falun Gong.

Mr. Wang Junheng was arrested on April 7, 2025, after being reported for talking to people about the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of his faith, Falun Gong. His wife, who has been incapacitated for years and relied on him, is left to fend for herself.

The Muping District Procuratorate issued a formal arrest warrant for Mr. Wang and indicted him at an unknown time. The Muping District Court sentenced him to one and a half years around September 20, 2025, and he was admitted to the Shandong Province Prison in the capital of Jinan soon afterwards. Other details of his prosecution are unclear.

Past Persecution

Mr. Wang credits Falun Gong with resolving his rheumatoid arthritis and other ailments. He was hit by a truck in the summer of 2021 and rushed to a hospital. The doctor said that one of his feet needed to be amputated in order to save his leg. He decided against it and gradually recovered through practicing Falun Gong.

Prior to his latest persecution episode, Mr. Wang was harassed numerous times between August 2019 and 2020. He was given one year of “bail pending trial” on April 24, 2020.

Mr. Wang’s latest arrest was preceded by another arrest on April 12, 2024, after he and a friend, Mr. Wang Huawei (no relation), accompanied two sisters to seek the release of their mother, Ms. Yin Minghua, who was later sentenced to three and a half years and fine 15,000-yuan in late August 2024 for practicing Falun Gong.

Mr. Wang Huawei and Ms. Yin’s younger daughter were both initially given 15 days of detention, but Mr. Wang Huawei was allowed to go home hours after his arrest because of his poor health. Ms. Yin’s younger daughter was released on April 27, 2024.

Mr. Wang Junheng and Ms. Yin’s older daughter were both given 37 days of detention. They were released on bail on May 20, 2024. Mr. Wang’s family were shocked by his appearance when he returned home. When he went on a hunger strike to protest the arbitrary arrest, he was force-fed and beaten repeatedly. His family took him to a hospital, and the doctors found that one of his ribs was broken. He was still in pain weeks later.
